• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi, my wife and I just purchased a 2012 RT-S. We're both motorcycle riders (I ride a 2011 Kawasaki Concours, she has a 2009 Yamaha VStar 1300 Tourer). Due to some knee issues she no longer feels comfortable on 2 wheels, so we started looking at trikes. Luckily, she didn't like any of the traditional style ones we saw (I hate them). As far as Can-Am went, she had sat on an RS before and didn't like it, but our bike dealer had an RT-S in the back, she sat on that and said it felt great. Took it for a cruise, and decided this is the way she wanted to go. They were asking 20k for a 2011 with 11k miles, and would only come down to 17500, so we started looking around. We found the 2012 at another dealer who is actually a can-am dealer. It had just under 4200 miles and he we got it for 16k. I rode it home Saturday (too cold for her!). Yesterday it was 50 and we went out for a couple hours so she could get used to it. She had a blast and it's good to see her excited about riding again.

I already had my 1st mechanical screw up, I was installing the cable for her heated gear, and heard the horrible plink of the nut falling out of the bottom of the negative battery connector. I had to remove the side panels to get in there enough to get the cable reconnected. I never did get the original nut/bolt on, I used a longer one and fed it from the bottom and put the nut on top. The Tupperware comes off a lot easier than my Concours though, but getting that cable hooked up wasn't fun. Not a real good design when a 5 minute job turns into 2 hours! I found the videos here of how to remove the panels, they were a huge help.

Welcome, you can find just about any info regarding Spyders on this site. Enjoy the ride

Yikes..!!

They should have a warning or tack weld the nut in place..but they don't...don't feel bad this has happened to many. Those who ask are warned never loosen the negative bolt under the seat. I was lucky and went direct to the battery and saw these warnings later. Congrats on your new ryde she will love it more with every ryde.you found a great deal. Enjoy...:ohyea::ohyea:

:welcome: :congrats:on your 2012 RT. You will like it.

We rode our 2012 RT Limited in 2013 approx. 7650 miles of smiles!! That was our first Spyder and we recently decided to upgrade to a 2014 RT Limited. Enjoy!!

From the sounds of it that is not the negative battery terminal. It is the negative jump start terminal and the rear frame ground. As you have found, it should not be loosened unless you want trouble. The battery terminals can be found withing the left side of the bodywork, after removeing the left side panels.

I'll do that! She's not much of a forum person, where as I'm on a bunch for both riding and other interests, but she does do face book.

No relation to any Mike's that I know of! :)

I probably won't get a lot of saddle time on the Spyder, but I'm sure I can sneak it out once in a while. I really love my Concours and ride that every chance I get.

Welcome to the Spyder family! Enjoy the ride, we all have. If you would like to meet some of the amazing people on this site check into attending Spyderfest in April. The worlds largest and best Spyder rally. There are details on the home page. Hope to see you there!:2thumbs:
