• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Owner

Well, sort of a new owner. Actually bought at 2012 RT Limited today in pearl white. It has about 6200 miles on it and looks like it just came off the showroom floor.

When I say "sort of a new owner", what I mean is that I actually bought it for my wife. She has been wanting one ever since we took an extended test ride on one a few years ago. I'm must not ready to give up on my Royal Star Venture yet but she fell in love with the Spyder and I finally cave in and bought her one.

I run a forum very similar to this one (same software and etc.) that is dedicated to the Venture and Royal Star motorcycles. I started it about 13 or 14 years ago and it's still going strong. So I am familiar with how the forum software works and will do some searching and reading before asking questions that I know I'll have.

We live in Oberlin, OH and look forward to hopefully meeting some of you in the future.

Here is a picture of her new ride for now. Picture is at the former owner's house. I only WISH I had a Corvette in the garage.

We picked up the Spyder on Saturday. My wife rode it home from Port Clinton, OH to our house outside of Oberlin, OH. Only about an hour ride. We ran into heavy rain for about the last 20 minutes though. I was in the Nissan Murano following her. I started to pull over and ride it home through the rain but then decided........nawwwwwww.....if she wants to ride, she needs to take what comes. :)

Anyway, in spite of the rain, she was all smiles when she pulled it into the garage.

On Sunday, we took a longer ride. Me on my 2005 Royal Star Venture and her on the Spyder. We did what turned out to be about a 186 mile "lunch" ride down to Roscoe Village in Coshocton, OH. Had a great time and were accompanied we two other couples that we ride with from time to time. Mostly curvy roads and then a great lunch. Left here around 10:00 in the morning and got back home around 8:00 in the evening.

Here are some pictures from us taking delivery on Saturday and me following her home. She got it down pretty quickly. She was tooling along around 65 MPH down OH 2. The last picture is just before leaving for the ride to Coshocton on Sunday.

welcome to the forum from Canton, Ohio, we were just down your way yesterday on the way to Old Man's Cave. I am sure that the two of you will enjoy the the new addition to the family.

When old man age caught up with me, I went from a Royal Star Venture to a Spyder RT. I sometimes have faun memories and miss the Venture but the Spyder let me keep my knees in the breeze. When you get there, don't fight it. Just hop on the Spyder and keep the wind in your face. :doorag:

Welcome to this bunch

Welcome to the Spyder Web :yes::yes::yes::yes:

When the time comes, I'll not hesitate to move to a Spyder or a trike of some kind. I finally took it for a short ride yesterday. It was fun but I'm just not ready to give up my two wheels yet. I'm 62 now and have been riding since I was 13 or 14. I'm also 6' 2" with long legs and the Spyder feels OK to me but certainly not the position that I prefer. I have always leaned toward the "cruiser" ergonomics. We'll see what the future holds.

From the 185 mile ride on Sunday, she mentioned that she would like the handlebars to come back a bit further or maybe a bit higher or both. From what research I've already done, that will be an expensive undertaking for this bike. I think that a drivers backrest is in order also. Looking at the Utopia versions but will see what else is available also. One thing I noticed is that the headlights seem lacking, at least for daytime riding. A couple of times when I was leading, I could see the headlights very well on the other two bikes but hers certainly didn't stand out. I'm sure she had them on low beam. Maybe putting them on bright would be much better but I'm thinking that I will have to change them out.

Also new Spyder and Royal Star Venture owner

Funny coincidence--I also just bought a Can Am. A 2013 Spyder RT SE5. And I have also been riding a Royal Star Venture (trike). Love the Spyder! I don't get tired out on the long runs anymore. Now just gotta sell the trike so I can justify the cost of the new one.;)20180629_144650[1].jpg

I hope you love it. I just didn't. It was OK and fun in its own way but just wasn't for me. My wife rode it a little, but in the end, prefered riding with me. She wanted me to love it and probably felt safer on it than the motorcycle at this point in our life but I just didn't warm up to it. So we ended up buying a Slingshot. We haven't ridden it as much as we hoped due to life getting in the way. I still have my Royal Star Venture and still prefer riding it over even the Slingshot but we'll see.
