• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. New member with a Spyder ST Limited

I have been lurking around these pages for a while and figure it's time for an introduction.

My wife and I purchased a new Black Current 2013 Spyder ST Limited in March and has taken it on a long 9000 mile road round trip from Toronto, Canada on a National Parks tour of the USA. We are both in our mid 30's and hope for the Spyder to be a long term partnership.

We love the Spyder but have had a few issues so far, engine heat, oil consumption and rotors squealing. Hopefully all these problems will either be fixed by the dealer or fixed by itself. The stalling issue fixed itself like many here said it would after 1000 miles or so.

Welcome..!!

glad you got the courage to speak up..:roflblack::roflblack: I've been hearing that "simple green" sprayed on the rotors will clean off the brake dust that causes some of the noise. Just make sure you check the brakes before ryding off. The heat issue has some solutions but most have been self made. You can search for them and the new panels are supposed to help. If you had all the recall an mods brp is doing you should be somewhat better. Oil consumption I have so say is a lot on how you ryde. Sounds like you had a great trip...:ohyea::ohyea:

Welcome! That sounds like a great trip. The brakes squeal sometimes because of dirt so you might check that. The 990 tends to consume about a quart if oil between changes and the heat is an issue.

Congrats & best of luck

I don't have an issue with heat or oil consumption. The brake noise has been a minor issue. Have you had all the updates ?

Heat issues

The 2013 ST's heat issues are well documented on here.
I would let BRP and your dealer know about your concerns and see if they are prepared to fit the new 2014 vented panels under warranty.

Wow...that is badazz!! A 9000 mile roundtrip hitting a bunch of national parks on the Spyder!? That's epic! I've got to ask...both of you being in your mid 30's...how did you have the time to do that? How long was the roundtrip? Sounds like 3 weeks minimum maybe even a month+!

Got to put in another vote for pics of the spyder and maybe even some good scenery pics of the parks!! Bonus points for scenic pics of the parks with the Spyder in the foreground!

We both took a 4 month leave of absence from work for a vacation of a liftetime but ended up only going for 1 1/2 months due to family reasons. Here are some pics.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I have had all the recalls done and the Spyder is actually making the noises in parking lot slow speeds squealing while not even applying the brakes. We did ride pretty hard and long in 110 deg f weather so that might have something to do with the oil consumption. It's not hot enough to bother me yet but I will consider the new panels. Have an appointment for the dealer to look at everything.

:welcome: :nopic: :2thumbs:

I have about 3000 pics but here are some more.

We went to many other National Monuments and National Parks also and even though it was shorter than we wanted, it is still our trip of a lifetime so far.

Awesome pics!! Wow...a multi month leave of absence with work...jealous that you both could get away with that! Hope all's well with the family.

What was your general gameplan regarding accommodations, food, laundry, and any other noteworthy things that one might not even think about when going on the road for a month+ on the spyder?

The gameplan was camping as much as possible at KOA campsites for $25 a night, it's luxury camping basically with washroom, showers, laundry and everything. Hotels once in a while if we need a break from camping. Have a MSR Whisperlite mini stove and buy food from Walmart usually. Most of the cost is fuel, food and lodging, no room to buy much to bring home. It is tiring trip if you don't stay in the same place for a few days at a time which we didn't and should have.

:welcome:and :congrats: where is the pictures of your :spyder2:?

I met the president of the Southern Utah Chapter for a Spyder Club near Zion National Park, he's on this forum somewhere. It was very nice to meet you if you read this.
