New mapping for 2013 spyders

Ok here we go:

Pickup my bike from the dealer last week Thursday it was cold and late so my ride was from the dealer home, but Saturday morning from 8 am till 6 pm I was riding here is what I feel.

Higher RPM: the bike is running the RPM much higher than before now when I hit 80 MPH is at 9000 rpm and asking me to please slow down, since BRP is saying that we do not ride the bike hard as intended to be I was pushing it hard. Few times on 5th gear at 85 mph I had to slow down because the bike was running out of power and that never happen before.

Before this new mapping I reach 114 to 117 on the 5th gear I do not see that happening now.

Heat issues still there, after my first run on NJ turnpike when I reach the last exit, my bike was very hot, so hot that if I take my gloves off and touch it, it could it burn my skin.

On my way back from the ride I did the same push my ST-S as hard as I could with the same results, the power was not there after the 4th gear, but from 1st to the 3rd gear it was ok, but the bike was asking please change gears I do not like the higher RPM.

I call BRP this morning a left a message for the person in charge of my case I hope he is ready for my feedback because is not good at all, I did talk to the head mechanic at my dealer and he told me he knew what my feedback was going to be, since he took the bike for a test ride after the mapping but told my that he was waiting for me to tell him how the bike feels.

I do understand that what is going on with my bike could be unique to my bike, the HEAT issue still there and it was 50 outside, I will ride this weekend again and let you know what happen, till them have a great week.

I'm curious about these results so please keep us updated to the outcome with BRP. I got mine done on Friday and my results were better than that. Mine idles smoother, starts better, accelerates smoother and it's hard to tell with the cool temps out but I think it helped with the heat on mine, maybe? When I would first start mine cold it would always die at least twice and then when it would finally stay running it would "hunt" up and down for about a minuet or two then idle. Now I just hit the button and it's running and it stabilizes right at 1300/1400 and runs smooth. This is going to be as hard to figure out as why some had heat issues and some did not. :dontknow:

Was going to ride mine today...but internet is down...2013 new car needs to go to shop...Mark had to put a new battery in the Sky, plus Sky needs new tires...hopefullly wednesday I can take the ST out and ride it a few hundred miles...not good Baseball79st2013...I am hoping for the best

I've had my 2013 RT-S at right about 85 mph and did not experience the lack of power. My spyder is running much smoother since the mapping issue. However, I can't see any difference in the heat. I've ridden it days in which it was 85 degrees. (Flarda). I'm happy about how smooth it runs. I'll try taking it up to 90 this week just to see if this phenomena happens.

Chris

I feel that the mapping may help other things not the heat issues, but I'll keep you inform this weekend on what happens, I happy that your bike is running smooth, I hope my bike does better the next.

The idle issues I had on Thursday is gone, and that was the best thing besides being out riding.

If your running 9k rpms at 85 mph then you are flat out missing a gear or have clutch issues.
Long runs at high rpms are not ideal for the bike and will cause it to run hotter than normal.

What? You need to surf the 'net while riding?? :roflblack::roflblack:
No surfing the net while riding...have to get everything ready for at&t....we had wires everywhere...now all tided up...plus it is misty rain all dday...humidity must be 100%...everything is wet

Drew, that is not what BRP is saying, they told me that we need to run the RPM higher no less than 5 to 6, and I'm no missing a gear and I have a new clutch on the bike, they told me that one of the issues with the 2013 was that we the riders are to soft and don't push the bikes as we should. after riding two wheels for so long over 25 years to have BRP, telling me that I'm riding their bike to soft I know that is not the case.

I will let you know after I take it for a ride this weekend how it feels.

No, the point was 85mph in 5th gear is NOT 9000 rpm. Maybe in 4th. The tune cannot change RPM for a given speed. The trans gears are physical and software updates cannot change that or the sprockets on the belt.

I too have not experienced any lessening of power after the update. Any chance you have a failing plug wire? The symptoms point that way.

I have been told that as well, not happy about it either! I bought a touring bike not a race bike. When I went back for the first service the mechanic told me I'm not riding it hard enough because according to my BUDS report I never had the bike above 6000 rpm's.

Keep the tach between 4 & 7K and you should be fine. Ideal is 4 to 6K under normal riding conditions. 5th gear and 7K means you're carrying the mail. If ya know what I mean.

You are abusing your machine if you are flogging it down the highway at 85 mph in 4th turning 9k rpms.
The rev limiter is 10k.
The "higher rpm" talk is referring more toward that lower speed cruise for those people that want to lug the motor along under 4k. at under let's say 50mph.
Just keep the revs ideally above 4k when cruising. Its ok to rev it up a bit, but shift up at higher revs/speeds.

Hi Baseball79ST2013,

While it's true we recommend that folks shouldn't really be upshifting at much less than about 5000rpm, you can run the Rotax V-Twin engine at less than what you're running at now so long as you're not lugging it. Running at 9000RPM for an extended period of time will definitely generate more heat than at a lesser RPM.

I know that before the mapping I could do 80+ in 4th and the bike was responding the way it should, with plenty of power left, and did not happen Saturday or Sunday but I will see what happen this weekend.

Sorry but my bike needs to response to my needs when I need it, BRP told me we are babying our bikes and that is not the case with me, I ride my bike as a bike, not a bicycle.

BRPcare,

Maybe I should say this, the bike is running different now than before, if before the mapping I was running at 80 MPH in 4th gear now the bike is asking for the 5th gear earlier than before, lets say at 60 or under.

It gets to 9 rpm at lower speeds that is what is going on now. Never before the mapping if you like PM I'll give you my number and we can talk about it since the person from BRP still has not call me after few messages so that I can give him my feedback.
