• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New 2022 RTL Parking brake releases when parked! Ideas why?

Yep Sure sounds like the motor. The holding brake inside the motor is failing it sounds like.

Have the dealer come pick it up its under the warranty.

You have a new Spyder with a parking brake that malfunctions. Get it to the dealership and tell them to fix it. If you get any gas about part availability, tell them to take the necessary parts from another new machine and put your backside back on the road.

Leaving Mon for a safari to Kenya and Tanzania. Will get it to the dealer when we get back in Oct. If the motor is not in stock, I saw 3 new RTL’s on the floor for parts!!

Dealer finally got a reply from the mother ship. BRP states that a command is required to release the brake, however my analysis of the failure mode continues to be a slipping brake which I believe is internal to the motor assembly.

"This is a complaint that I never had before. What is strange, is that to release the parking brake, the parking motor needs to turn. It needs a command and power. Yet, the machine is completely turned off. The Best I can suggest is to have the Spyder back for a couple of days, and try to duplicate the problem. See if mechanically all is as it should be (cable, winding mechanism, rear caliper correct adjusted)."

There is no 'holding brake' inside the motor. Its a simple worm gear drive motor. GM window motor to be exact. The worm gear is self locking. That is, no amount of torque on the pully will cause the worm gear to spin.

Well, that throws my theory out the window . That only leaves the possibility that somehow the motor is getting momentary power to unlock the brake.
This is like trying to solve a murder mystery!!

The dealer confirmed the motor is a worm drive (like a Wiper or power window motor) and thus will be self locking when stopped. Will do a bit of testing to see if there is any pattern to the failure and then take it back and leave with the dealer.

Tested and tested and it would not fail!!
Took to dealer and left it. Surprise, surprise, it worked perfectly. No faults found. Will pick it up and drive it to see if the fault returns, although very few riding days left this year in Ontario.
