• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New 2012 RTS-SE5 Owner questions?

Drove the new spyder home 25 miles from the Dealer. The analog fuel gauge was reading full when I left the Dealer. But was reading half a tank on the gauge at my house. Appears to be a useless device.
:yikes:
Tried to lock side & top cases with the ignition key. But the key only turns clockwise in the lock.:banghead:

Should a plastic shelf plate be in the rear top case?

Otherwise I'm extremely happy with the new:spyder2:

There's been tons of discussions about the analogue gauges and the general concensus is to disconnect them and use the ones that pop up on the MFD instead. I've done the same and very accurate compared to the other gauges.

Sounds like the dealer may have installed the trunk lock incorrectly and will need to check their work.

I believe the shelf is standard on Limited only, but could be wrong on this.

Welcome to the family.

Key only turns clockwise in the lock.? Not sure if I'm clear on what your saying but.

Try this.

Turn the key 90 degrees clockwise to lock and pull the key out when it is in this position. The compartments should be locked.

Not clear also on what you are talking about. To lock the trunk you turn the key 90 degrees (to 3 o'clock) and pull the key out. Trunk should be locked.

The analog gauge should work. Probably an installation problem.

Also, to help you learn a few basics of "new ownership" be sure to read this. It may help you enjoy your Spyder and get more out of it.

Hmmmm. Good point. I read this as the key just turning and turning in the clockwise direction.

My fuel gauge was reading low the first time and high after it was replaced under warranty. Temp gauge was equally pathetic. I just gave up and pulled their plugs and eliminated the guess work. Some seem to work well for folks though...

:dontknow: guess we shall find out. That is if he comes back :roflblack:

:congrats: on the spyder!

I don't go by the gas gauge. I set my trip each fill up and since I average 30 to 32 miles per gallon, I know that at 90 miles, I've used about 1/2 a tank, etc and will fill up between 120 and 150 miles.

Hope you have as much fun with your spyder as I do mine!

newbee spyder

hello everyone and its a pleasure to stumble on such a site!
yup, I got my 2012 RS-SE5 tan limited last week and loveing it. gas gauge didnt work aswell and some parts missing here n there.dealer told me BRP is coming out with a fix on faulty gas gauges -after paying 30k everything needs to work- thats the way I see it!

Thanks for the fast responses and help guys. I accept that the analog fuel guage is not accurate and will just use the Trip A meter at 125 to 150 miles and fill up as others do.
I read the manual wrong and thought the side cases and top case were suppose to lock. By turning the key counter clockwise to the 9 o'clock position.
Getting more familiar with the spyder with as much seat time as I can stand. Pretty warm and humid in the sunshine state.

:welcome: to the club.

The gas guage is a joke. I have had two put in. I finally disconnected the extra gauges and like the results better using the analog gauges. You are right though. My first comment with the gas gauge fiasco is that for 30K--everything on the :ani29: should work.

:welcome: I hadn't heard anything about RS having faulty gas gauges as theirs are digital. The problems have been with the analog gauge on the RT A & C, the RTS and the RT Limited which have analog gauges. You can disconnect the analog gauges and you will have digital gauges that show up in the digital display. These are much more accurate.

The only gas gauge I look at is my tractor...very accurate. My Spyder, I reset my odometer each fill and go by it....depending on distance in west Texas I am going, I generally fill at 100 or 120...going farther than that can put you at the side of the road....no fun in this heat...I get 30 mpg and have 6.7 so I can go 180 and then I am dry...I like a 50 or so backup....around towns, I go 140-150.

Check your mileage and then follow your odometer...you will be happier.

The rear cargo compartments are locked when the key is turned clockwise, with the slot in the horizontal position. They are unlocked turning counter-clockwise, with the slot vertical. The key removes in either position.
