Nets for side storage pods ….

I was waved down on a local freeway because the side case was open on my RT. I lost a 2 month old Gerbing Heated jacket liner. Has anyone ever tried to come up with nets to cover the side compartments when the doors are open. I have the nets in the doors to keep items secure when the door is closed but what about net that would cover about 2/3 of the large opening? It would keep items secure even if the door is not completely latched and opens while riding!

You could probably do something with some of those nets that are used to secure cargo to a rear seat... Try using Velcro to attach it to the inside of the compartment! :thumbup:

I haven't read of that being done but it sounds like a pretty easy DIY project and probably a pretty good idea. You can buy some light but strong mesh and some Velcro with sticky backing to attach one side to the inside of bags where needed and the other side sewn to the mesh. Might be other possibilities but that was my first thought. Too bad you lost the Gerbing liner but could have been worse.

Try using Spyder Pockets, look @ my Thread" Latest Farkles on a 2014RTS-SE6" you will see pictures, they are easy to install. Use the screws that are already in the door of the saddlebag, I did not have to make holes in the saddlebag. I got the Spyder Pockets from TricLED. Deanna

I'm thinking bungee nets stretched across the opening, would work...

the rear seat cargo nets for two wheelers would work nicely. Some of those stick down hooks and your good to go. Thats why many police departments can only use top loaders and honda changed to side loaders to keep the police from using the goldwings.....:thumbup:

I have nets for the pockets in the door. I was looking for an option for the big case opening to protect things life jackets from falling out. Kind of funny that the spyder warns you if the trunk is not latched but will let you ride forever with the side pod door open!!

Your idea has some merit.
I'm wondering how you could be driving around with the storage door open without knowing it.
When any of the rear storage compartments are open, you should be getting a big orange warning on the LCD screen.
Maybe the closure switch is out of adjustment ? Stuck ?

You could probably handle the chore with a self-tapping screw... or even Velcro. :thumbup:

I have checked and there is no switch for the side pods!
