• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need to replace drive belt

Was idly looking at the rear sprocket on my 08 GS as I was waiting to be picked up by the car dealer's shuttle to get our car back from a service & happened to see what looked like damage on the outer edge of the belt. It just happened to be where I could easily see it.

On closer inspection it looked like a very small area of delammination.

I cut off the little piece that I could flap up & darned if I couldn't see the sprocket through a small hole in the belt. Something had obviously got trapped between the sprocket & belt that was hard enough not to get crushed & had poked up into the belt, pushing a bit of the rubber up so I could see it.

Darn. I had a Spyderpops belt guard on as well.

Went onto ebay & found a new OEM one for $139, so bought it.

Read up on belt replacement here, so now have a job I didn't expect to have to do. Only 8000 miles on the belt. Rats!!

I marked the extent of the damage that shows on the top of the belt (no cords seem to have been cut) & went out for a 60 mile ride. Damage did not worsen so that is a relief. Will ride it & keep an eye on it until I can replace it at end of month.

When I do the replacement I will measure the tension in 3 places with my Krikit, remove the wheel as per Lamont's video, examine & smooth the sprockets if they need it & retension the belt to my original Krikit readings if it needs it.

Wish me luck
