Need to modify driver's seat on 2023 RTL - anyone made theirs comfortable?

I use an air cushion (Airhawk or Wildass). Works great for my long days in the saddle and costs 5 times less than a custom seat that may or may not solve your problem.

AirHawk seat cushions work great for my wife and I........

I received my gel insert from Dave a week ago. Hope to find time this weekend to install it.
I will post findings after a good ride.

I put a Corbin seat on my 22 RTL, I can ride all day in comfort.

For me, being retired and looking at the thousands of dollars I put into my Harley... that I will never get back out of it.
I like starting will low budget fixes as I will be 70 soon, and may never get the use of an $900 seat

I'm Interested in your feedback on the installation and what you think about the gel insert..

I put one in, it's really not that hard! Hardest part for me was stretching the cover back out and stapling it tight. The pad did make a difference, but I did end up finding an Ultimate that someone took off their bike for a custom saddle. Still not great but my air hawk gets me through the day. I find that seats are the hardest things to pick, you have nowhere to go and try them out, put your butt on it and take a 200-mile ride and see how it works. Asking someone how they like there seat don't mean your butts going to like it! :dontknow: Probably the hardest farkel in the box to pick out!!

Just got my Airhawk Custom R large for my 22 F3S drivers seat and the first impression is positive, I am still playing with the inflation of the cushion a bit and yes you will sit a bit higher 1/4-1/2" depending on the amount of inflation.

Thanks Mikey.. I agree with you on picking out a seat.. I've always put a Mustang Seat on my bikes in the past. I was able to try out a Mustang Seat at Biketober Fest a couple years ago and wasn't pleased with the seating position... I'm not having much problem with my stock seat for a 6 hours day. If I go much over that, it starts to get a bit more difficult.. I ride using Beadrider Beads which I've done for about 25years.. I only take them off in the winter and usually don't ride very far in the winter.
Thanks again for your feedback!

Stock seats on most MC's are terrible. Of course that is my own opinion. Anyway, I found a site years ago that someone cut a triangle where his tailbone is on the seat. I tried it and that was probably the best fix for me.

I have installed the Foam/Gel insert from Motorcycle Dave and it has made great improvement, but I noticed 2 days ago when I took a ride that in less that 6 or 7 miles my bottom was a bit sore. It didn't get any worse as I continued, but the seat still seems a bit uncomfortable. I believe it is because of the shape of the seat - it's rounded and not flatter like my Electra Glide seat.
Has anyone added material to the seat cover and changed the contour of the seat to make it flatter?

NoTyme, if you are looking at changing the contour of the seat, it wouldn’t hurt to have a look at the shape of the Daylong and Laam seats. They modify your stock seat and guarantee to give you all day comfort. Their seats are not flat, but have extended wings on each side which provide support under your thighs. This is what gives you the all-day comfort. Your car seat is designed the same way. There is much more involved than just the wings though. Daylong alters the seat “springing” depending your weight, and they shape the foam to match your body shape and leg length to ensure your knees are below your hips. There is a huge amount of science involved to get an individual to experience all day comfort.

Good luck with your mods

After pricing the "Comfort" seat from BRP, and then seeing that there are 2 "Comfort" seats, one with the heated options, I am now looking at the Daylong web site.
I was able to get some comfort out of the stock seat with Dave's gel insert, but the issue is my seat is still pretty stout and rounded. At 6'2" and 245 I like the comfort in my stock FLH seat on my EG, as there is some cush in the Harley seat, where there is none really on my Spyder seat.

I have a Sea To Sky which comes with some additional adaptive memory foam for extra cushioning. The main problem is that these seats are built to be a happy medium. In the USA, the "average' weight of riders is approx. 175# Well ... I am 235# fully geared. OEM seats are just too softly foamed.

The install was a bit much for me, but that’s because I have a weak left hand from nerve damage. My wife had to help me especially with pulling the cover back on. I did use my neighbors air stapler, and glad I had it to use.
I definitely feel the difference but it still not quite comfortable enough for a long ride or a trip. Dave had good instructions and even online photos; I even spoke with him on the phone more than once as I had a question on the install. Being 6'2" and 245 I need a bit more to be able to do an overnighter. It sure beat $1,000 for the comfort seat which I was able to check out this week at a dealership… I didn’t see that much difference from it and what I have now.
Good luck in your search for comfort.

Do you like the Ultimate seat? I’m thinking of doing that myself.

I found one at the Findley Ohio dealer and went to check it out. They opened the box and from what I could feel, there's not much if any real difference in feel. I could not justify the cost just to try it out.

JMO... but I do advise you seek one out and feel it before you buy one. I've seen 20% off for a few more days.

The seats are hard on the Spyder's, even the comfort seat isn't comfortable, I found cheap motorcycle seat cushion on Amazon, and it has made a difference!
It also sit's me about an inch or so higher, which has also helped with leg cramps.. good luck on finding what works for you

Really ? Seats are hard? Majority of folks here who swap seats or have them rebuilt is due to the foam being too soft. I guess it depends on weight. Being 225#, my seat compresses too much over longer riding distances....

Yes, I believe weight has a lot to do with it. Speaking with Russel Day Long CS, they said they use a spring system, and me being 245 I would need the heavier spring in mine. It is also wider, which I think will also help.
