• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need to Advertise Spyder MORE!!

I wonder if BRP paid to have the Spyder in the tv series CSI Miami in Dec. of 2008. I think the segemnt was a minute at most. I bring this up b/c that is what sold me on the spyder. I went to a dealer in Jan. 2009 and purchased without a test drive.

I ordered mine without a test drive as well...had to wait a while for it...this was late summer 2008...

I was in my dealers showroom. Back in April of 08. He had a Spyder sitting there.[not for sale] First time i ever seen one,
No test ride needed for me'[real men don't test ride] left him a deposit and he had another one for me the middle of May 08.

I started out on a 1969 125 Sachs/Penton! Had the Uber Heavy articulated front end, boat anchor.

And while you may be correct about KTM on the racing circuit. An average day in the desert or on a mountain trail you'll not see all that many of them (I own the EXC 300, nice machine).

And since there is no racing circuit for the Spyder, it isn't going to get any recognition in that venue.

It is unfortunate that the Spyder has gotten hung with the 'Old man's ride' label. I think it keeps younger people from trying it. That may change though, as you can't keep a good secret for ever.

A friend of mine had one of those old Sachs/Pentons that I rode a little bit. Not much power and the front end was almost too heavy to get off the ground but it really stuck good in tight, sandy corners. Around here I see a lot of casual trail riders on KTM's, may not be the same everywhere. I haven't ridden an EXC 300, they are just too tall for me. But I have friends who own them and they are excellent bikes. I still love 2 strokes. In fact, I think the fact that KTM still makes good 2 strokes while almost everyone else has quit is one of the reasons they are so successful in enduro competition. When you're riding mud, rocky hills, sand whoops, tight, twisty trails, the extra weight of a 4 stroke starts to drag you down after a few hours.

I agree about the 'Old man's ride' and I think it's a shame because the Spyder is a good ride for anyone of any age. It takes a degree of skill to ride it aggressively just as a 2 wheeler does but at the same time I don't have to worry about dropping it when I stop. In some ways, it's the best of two worlds. I'm old fashioned enough to think that what we need is a magazine devoted to Spyders. I don't know if kids even look at magazines like I did when I was a kid, maybe they just look at smart phones. But the word needs to get out in some form other than advertising.

:yikes:The TV spots around last years super boal where well done - liked seeing them. I have been aware of the spyder since before you could buy one. It's now 2011 and the number of spyders I have seen on the road I can count on one hand and exclude the thumb. When I see one my eyes bug and I own one (spyder -I have two eyes). So when I ride and see eyes bug out it makes me think ,well... maybe one or two more TV spots.... but, lets keep the eyes buging.

Ads in WA

There have been a heap of TV advertisements here in Australia (WA at least) and the bike magazines I buy have full page ads in them also.

TV ads would be at least 2 to 3 times a week over the past few months here.

I recall when HD took off in the early 90s. You had to buy a spot on a waiting list to get a bike. People were auctioning the spots on Ebay and making money. Our local dealer was revoking spots and refunding money to a few people who tried this. It was insane. Dealers in Northern WI were inflating prices beyond belief and still selling bikes like crazy.

FF to today. I stopped at a major HD dealer in Bellevue,WA last week. Their used showroom had close to 100 motorcycles in it, mostly big twins. A few sportsters, one vrod. A gold wing and a triumph. I m rather surprised at the lack of off brands. Meaning that the market(at least according to the motorcycles in this room) is saturated and lots of people are trading up, not switching brands.

I m impressed with the way HD has gained popularity thru quality control and marketing the "lifestyle". They are doing well, considering the shape of the economy.

Does BRP need to advertise more? Or change the strategy of their advertising to promote some sort of "lifestyle"? Nah.

I doubt Spyder's will ever gain the popularity of a motorcycle, simply, because it is not one. It's a whole different experience. The differences are what make it a great experience, not the similarities.

I believe BRP had been in the "marketing motorized fun toys" long enough to know how much promotion is good for sales without going overboard;)

If Spyders gained as much popularity as "other" variety of less than 4 wheel transportation, I would be forced to a..drastic outlay of cash!! :yikes:(which would have to include a trailer hitch)

Have a wonderful weekend..it's snowing here again in the rainy city!

Actually, HD has had serious problems and almost went bankrupt...they cut the Buell line and shut down a plant...they are not doing well right now...

You'd never know by visiting the Syracuse, NY dealer on any Saturday. Of course, all those people may just be window shopping.

Yeah, if they already own or are window shopping, sure...they are, I believe, getting more business from current HD owners trading in and up than they are from new customers...

Hopefully, all that will change very soon...

:dontknow:
First rule in sales; You can't make a sale until the customer comes in your store[window shopper] Then if your product caches their eye eventually you'll make a sale.
I bought two new bikes in the last 3 years and i was just window shopping.

I just saw a 30 second Can-Am Spyder commerical on the Weather Channel. First one I have seen for awhile. Must be getting close to riding season for us unfortunates that have to hibernate in the winter. They had the pearl white RT Limited and it looked really nice. Starting to get real anxious. Mine should get here in the next few weeks.

The REAL advertising happens when we get out and ride! That will be picking up soon for even the snow bound SpyderLovers!

I just saw the same commercial watching the Daytona Supercross on the Speed Channel. I agree that the pearl white is really beautiful.
