• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Need help with buying questions.

Hello all,

This is my first post on this site. I'm looking into buying a RS SM5 Spyder and I have a few questions. I have test drove a 2009 RS twice, but I've been seeing some negative reviews and posts about the 2009 and 2010. People reporting issues with right out of the box Spyders (limp mode, dps, etc...)

Does anyone have a 2011 and do these models have some of the same issues?

What can I expect to pay for a 2011 base model that normal stickers for $16,499.00?

Brand new 2009 models are selling in my neck of the woods for $12,900 before TT&L.

Any thoughts or opinions are greatly appreciated and thanks beforehand guys and girls. :D

The DPS should be a non-issue, since they were recalled, and dealers should have replaced the DPS before they sell to you. If you buy used, you should have this work done ASAP. There will be no cost, as it is a safety recall. There are really very few problems with most Spyders. The Internet magnifies complaints greatly! I would not worry about buying an older model, especially new...or with a remaining factory or BEST extended warranty. For a 2011, I would think if you can walk out the door for MSRP or less, you did OK. For an older one, I would search for a substantial discount.

Out the door price=msrp=:2thumbs:
Now that's on a 2011 model.
Spyder got to be high margin vehicle for dealers so I would look for deep discount for older NEW models.

Warranty please

Welcome to Spyderlovers and my two cents here are whatever you purchase new or used..... just make sure you purchase one with a warranty. Even if the problem ones are magnified online, they do happen and these are very expensive to repair.

Agreed...I bought the BEST because I always buy extended warranties (even though most places say not to)...regardless, I had an issue with the gears and everything was taken care of without a problem...very nice feeling to know BRP really does take of its own!

Buy a 2009 or 2010 for a nice discount...you'll be fine. I have a 2008...no issues...all recalls done...

due to the sluggish economy your dealer should be willing to go below suggested retail. i went in with a list of addons (some CanAM some aftermarket) and all i said was "see what you can do for me on this package and that will let me know what options i have to drop and which ones to keep". when he finished pricing out all the options (i had added $4k in parts - including the SE5 tranny, risers, lights etc.) and he was willing to eat all labor costs, tag, tax, and license costs.....that was before i even mentioned anything about price.... needless to say, i bought one there, even though i changed almost my entire list of options (dropped all the :spyder:billet and added more light upgrades - mudflaps, 3rd brake, etc).

most importantly: what are YOU willing to pay for the vehicle YOU want, not what some other guy wanted? THAT is how you determine cost. someones elses dream build with stuff i don't want = worth a LOT less. MY dream build with EXACLTY what i want = priceless!

just my 2 cents.:2thumbs:

:welcome: and as other have said, just purchase the BRP Best warranty with your spyder and enjoy. Look for good deals at the dealerships and know that if you buys used and they already purchased a warranty, that it is transferrable for the remainder of their purchased warranty.

:agree:
Extended warrenty is definitely suggested as these "new" high tech machine requires a lot more TLC. Unlike Hondas and Toyotas which are good until 6 digits miles.

First, :welcome: Second, :agree:
I spent months reading, listening and shopping. In my experience, when it really feels "right" then I know to get serious. I bought my 2009 GS SE5 with that just "right" feeling on price, etc. A few thousand miles later that feeling has only gotten better!

Hope we all get to say :congrats: when you find your :spyder2:

I dont know what the policy is for this board, so someone please delete this if it is against site policies.

I just purchased a 2011 rss sm5. Their msrp is 17,500. So this is a 1k price increase from the rs.

I paid $16,900 OTD plus a 3 year (2 years + 1 year of regular manf. warranty) B.E.S.T. warranty. I felt like I got a decent deal as the B.E.S.T. warranty can run around 600 bucks.

Manufacturer's warranty is two years on the Spyder.

oh, well maybe I got the raw end of the deal then....I got three years total...so I guess I just bought the 1 year extension
