There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Need Help to get OEM Antenna Off for replacement!

I bought one of the stubby antennas to replace the stock antenna. I can't get the stock antenna off! Any hints or ways to get this thing off?

Antenna off

I slid a 7mm deep socket over antenna, used a visa grip on socket and unscrewed the antenna.
was snug but the lock tight gave up easily!

That's how I did it also.
One of our members in here mentioned using a 7mm ignition wire wrench... (Those super thin, super small ones...)

I couldn't get a 7mm socket over the antenna because the hole in the socket was smaller than parts of the antenna. You can buy a 7mm open-end wrench at Lowes or Home Depot, slide it in at an angle, and it will come right out.

The 7mm socket and visegrips worked great on my 2011RT. Now that I have a 2016 RT, the base of the antenna is rubber and twists without unscrewing the bolt. It seems to have a lot of blue locktite. I received one of those shortees from Spyderpops for Christmas.

Any ideas on how to get this one off without damaging the rubber base? It seems like the 2016 antenna is totally different from the previous ones. The rubber covering on the antenna goes completely down the tupperware hole to the screw-in base.
Thanks.

The tip will come right off of the OEM antenna. I grabbed mine with a small set of Vise-Grips, and tried to unscrew it... it just popped right off!

I broke the original antenna last year (when I was putting the 1/2 cover on) at the bronze base under the Tupperware, I used a 7 mm deep socket wrench to unscrew the base, and replaced it with a short antenna (part # 710005084) and an antenna base (Rubber boot Part # 708300156).
Here are pictures of the short Antenna with the base:

I cut a small area for the antenna to fit thru the base. I get great radio reception with the short antenna.

The 2016 antenna is completely different from previous years, you may be a pioneer in taking it off.

Let us know.

Thanks for your help! SL is great!

I was able to get it off with the 7mm socket, but I had to ream out the socket because it wasn't a deep socket wrench. That took a few minutes. Instead of a vice grip, I just cut the antenna off at the brass, placed the socket, and inserted the hand driver for the socket.

It then broke through the lock tight easily, and the stubby went right on.

Unfortunately, I slipped at one moment and scratched the paint. I had extra Dr. ColorChip and repaired the scratch.
