Need help: Loose ESI Mirror Extensions

So I installed these over the weekend, love them, but I am having a problem: they're loose.

But NOT in the place the instructions suggested they'd be loose, i.e. where the ESI extensions meet the factory mirror bar, but instead where they meet the cowl.

I can't get the bolt with the stock bushing to tighten up enough to keep the mirrors from pivoting on that bolt (I believe there are three little "tabs" that are supposed to line up with three notches to sort of lock in, but neither of mine want to line up and lock in-- of if they do, it's still not enough to keep the mirrors from pivoting).

It's not a lot of travel-- maybe 3/4 of an inch at most-- but it's enough to shift the mirrors from a perfect view to a bad one.

Anyone know what the solution is? I tried an extra washer atop the bushing to no avail; I then instead put a washer *under* the bushing and that helped a little bit, but it still didn't solve it.

Loctite, maybe?

Try a 'star washer' on the 'inside' part where they come together--- can't describe it well- sorry-- but that helped mine.

Thanks, I'll try that. But where, precisely, did your washer go?

From the top down at the cowl (I *think* this is right):

1. The Torx bolt.

2. The stock washer.

3. The bushing.

4. The bottom of the mirror extension.

5. The bottom of the cowl.

The 3 nibs/tabs and notches is where the instructions suggest you be careful, otherwise the mirrors could be loose. If you have already overtighened them, the nibs may be flattened.

I could be wrong; but, the star washer would go between the squashed nibs and the notches.

Ahhh, crud... I squashed my nibs. pps:

In my defense, I think that was a lousy design to start with, as I could barely get one set of nibs and notches to line up, and the other one NEVER wanted to line up.

Yup, definitely, definitely lousy design. :joke:

I used star washers, also. Didn't even put them on the bolt. Just loosened the bolt and pushed the washer in between the mirror bracket arm and the the cowl and tightened it down. It has been that way for a year and never moved.
