Need advise on problems with new spyder

Hope you guys can help me with some advise on some problems with my 2014 st SE5 with 3k miles I bought new last fall.

1. Transmission is occasionally UP shifting on it's own. Usually when throttle input is low. Paddle assembly problem? Warrenty?

2. One front shock, Fox, has light oil on body. Warrenty?

3. Ignition key hard to insert. Takes many tries. Warrenty?

4. BraKES SQUEEK A LOT. At slow speed application. Disc quiet?

I live in upstate NY. Bought at Filer's. Can get service at Bibben's and Igles. Any experience with the three?

There shouldn't be any way for an upshift to happen on it's own...
The Fox shocks were an add-on: there's probably no warranty on them.
(But it won't hurt to ask, when you're discussing the upshifting issues...)
Early 2014 models had some ignition switch issues: check to see if this bike is one of them.
Squeaky brakes: try using the stuff that you mentioned...

Well....

:agree: upshifting is not in the cards...possibly in the hand position. Regardless of weather you let up or not (recommended you do not let up on the throttle when shifting) it will upshift. The downshifting, is normal when it reaches the right rpm and speed.

Oil on the shock body..? there may be some on the shock shaft but not usually on the body. I would wipe it down and them see if you continue to get oil build up.. If yours came with the fox shocks from the factory they should be covered by warranty.

Ignition switch...get some graphite lock lubricant and see if that clears the problem. If not check with dealer cause that was not a ignition problem seen recently but should also be covered.

Squealing brakes has always been an issue. Mostly caused by brake dust and mostly on the se models. Cleaning them is the best solution...Not covered by warranty...

2014 ST had Fox shocks standard equipment, should be warranty. I agree with Chupaca, Up shifts should not be happening, now if you are going very slow, say around a sharp turn it will down shift on its own. Up shifts should only occur when you bump the paddle. My brakes squeak sometimes at low speed, doesn't really annoy me, but I'm sure there is something to quiet that down if you want. The ignition key should be under warranty. Good luck, I hope you are able to get this all corrected!!:thumbup:

It sounds to me like your questions are covered. Let us know how it all plays out.

Spoke with Bibbens today. They have never heard of upshifting and agree something in paddles must be sending a single to shift. Inspecting the paddles today it seems kind of loose or sloppy. They think the other two things are warrenty too. On the brakes they suggest a couple of good hard stops. Have not tried it yet.

Hope someone can advise on the dealers. They have one spyder tech.

I bought from Ingles.
Only warranty work i had done was on seal of fuse box. Have had service work done and seems they did a good job. They are good people.

So far have had great luck with my spyder!!

I bought 2 sleds from them. Great to work with. But never had any service work done with them.

Any comments on Filer's ???

Gene, can you expand on why not rolling off when up shifting Mr. Cognac? I always have and with the power on, I get a very uncomfortable CLUNK and it seems to me that it would be hard on the transmission.

I wonder who rolls off and who do not. Thanks, George

Don't have one and have never ryden one. Have to depend on information posted here and the folks I ryde with. Not sure on the new 1330 with the new clutch and six speed. But your right if it klunks it's best roll back...

squeking brakes

i heard the teck at the shop telling a customer to apply a little pressure on the brakes and back up about 50 feet.i have never tried this so i don"t know if that works.my breaks don't squek enough to worry about.

The transmission control module and ECM work together to roll off the throttle as needed when you hit the shift paddle. When you say clunk is that when you hold the throttle steady? If so, have the dealer check things out. My 2014 RTS is smooth as silk when shifting. Much quieter than the 2013 RT was.

Page 86 of my operator's guide on upshifting, para 7b, says, "...You do not have to release the throttle while shifting with the SE6." I took it at face value and don't roll off the throttle, just push the shift lever.

I think I roll off as habit from my CBR 600 RR I used to ride... Good luck with solving the issues .. They sound covered..
