There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Need advice on seat

I have a 2009 Spyder RS and want to replace the stock seat with something more comfortable and not too expensive. I have seen Corbin and Ultimate and not sure if one of those is more comfortable or if there is something else out there. I am 5' 2" tall. Thanks.

Comfort is in the rump of the beholder. What is comfortable to some will be agony for others. I liked the stock RS seat, my 5'1" wife prefers the BRP Comfort Seat. Some folks swear by Corbin, while others swear at them. To me, the best solution is a custom-built seat like a Russell Day-Long. Aftermarket Spyder seats include the BRP Comfort Seat, Corbin, and Ultimate. There may also be one or two more. There are also sheepskin, beaded, and AirHawk pads that can make the standard seat more comfortable. If you can get to a Spyder event, I would recommend looking at some options, and maybe even asking to sit on a few different ones before you decide.

I agree - you are at the opposite end of the spectrum from most who ask.

You can find a number of options that are slightly used on the forums, which is a great way to try several options. Many of the "add ons" (beads, gel pads, etc) will add to the seat height and make you feel like you're on top of the bike and more tippy. Further, as a woman, you have anatomical issues, that most guys can't relate to. (sorry, I'm a Doc), so seats like Corbin will be too hard for you.

You might consider calling Ultimate or one of the other custom seat makers and ask for suggestions - you can float those on this forum, and I suspect some of the women riders will have some great suggestions. jmho...

:agree: with Scotty. I have had experience with stock RS--changed one to comfort seat for spouse and Corbin seats for my other two bikes. No experience with the others mentioned. "The beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

I see it's your first post so;:welcome:
I sat on a few different seats and for me the stock seat is good for me, The only reason i would change is that the seat is industrial looking. But i've been thinking about changing it for almost 3 years now. Maybe next year.:roflblack:
Another thought at your height maybe risers might make you feel more comfortable on the stock seat.:dontknow:

:agree: with all that has been said. I have a Corbin -- never had a problem with the comfort of the stock seat but I really liked the look of the Corbin. I have about 2000 miles on it now and I can honestly say that it is more comfortable now than it was when I first got it.
Initially I thought I had mad a mistake buying it - especially after I tried someone's Russell Day Long seat - now that is comfort from the get go.
But now I really like the feel of the Corbin - of course I would rather sit on a hard straight backed chair than a recliner. Go figure.

I'm 5'4". Most of my height is in my legs. I am extremely short from the waist up. Even then I needed a handlebar riser of some sort. My dealer was really pushing the HeliBar riser. So, that's what I have. I like it just fine.

As for seats, I sit very far forward on the stock seat. I've sat in a Corbin seat. OMG did it sit me TOO far away!!! I did not like it at all!

Truly custom looked like the only option until Ultimate Seats came out with their Lowrider seat. Now, I am drooling over this seat. Man, that seat back and holding you right forward looks pretty awesome to me. Besides, I have to have a good sized passenger seat for my hubby who rydes with me a lot.

Sadly, budget constraints will put this seat off for a while. I've spent all I can really afford this year already. I wish money was no issue at all. But, we're retired. And it is an issue. Oh well.

Good luck on your seat search. Sit in/on as many seats as you can find. Unfortunately, not a lot of Spyder ryders near me with different seat options. So, when or if I do jump in and get a new seat, it really will be jumping in blind. But, that Ultimate seat really looks divine!!

You will get lots of opinions. bjt and I love our Russell Day Long seats. We each had it made just for us.

Thanks

I have 4" risers and I still have a problem because I have to lean forward to reach the handlebars and that causes my back and neck to ache after a while. I have ordered the BRP 1" block riser and am hoping that will help. I think maybe the Ultimate low rider might be the key.

The general consensus seems to be that 3" or 4" risers are best for an upright position. Check forum threads for this information.

I don't think you'll have enough cable length if you add the one inch block to the 4 inch riser.:dontknow:

Just to add to the complexity of deciding, many of the seat options can be built custom to your specifications (riding position, height, weight, specific complaints or requests)

Because of all the choices I decided to pick a few things I really wanted and then hope that "customization" would take care of the rest.

I wanted a completely waterproof seat (not as easy to get as it sounds) and something that I didn't stick to in the summer. That greatly narrowed down the choices as must seats have stitching that will leak in a good rain.

Hope you get a chance to try out several of the options at Spyderfest!

I'm not sure how it worked but the 4" risers were put on the handlebars. They were cut off and then put on the risers. I hope I have enough cable, otherwise guess I will return the block.

If your risers aren't working out for you, I know of another rider who got her bar setup from KewlMetal. She got their center console and the tallest bars they had. I think they also sent a new set of cables to accomodate the new bars. I would call them to see what they can do if your bar height is an issue.

Thats how the risers are put on, Stock bars are cut then the risers are attached to the nubs [end of cut offs]
