• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need a Madstad "T" Nut

I need a replacement "T" Nut for the adjuster on my Madstad Windshield.
Madstad will not give or sell me a single T nut. To make my case with customer service, all I get is an AI bot to chat with - UGH!!

Have you tried Home Depot or Lowes? I love the aisle in the local Lowes when I need an odd nut or bolt.

What is the cost of a set of t nuts? I assume it's a pair, and their stainless steel. Do you know anyone that has a machine shop? They could make you a set, it's always good to have a spare on hand when you lose one!

That's too bad about Madstad CS. I've had two past Madstad shields, and their customer service always assisted me in spare parts. I guess a sign of the times :(

Those are either customized standard components or custom fabricated from scratch. The flat sides were cut after the nut was threaded. (A tap would have pushed steel out at the thin wall-section.) As such, you won't have luck finding a direct fit at the box stores.

Alternatively, can you use a carriage bolt (they already have the square shank) and a machine knob, something like this:

They make round ones, too.

Relative to bolt sizes, 1/4" and 6mm (0.014") are close in size, as well as 5/16" and 8mm (0.0025").

You might just have to bite the bullet & order a replacement set of all the fittings. The kits are only USD$18 (+ shipping I'd expect) from Madstad or you could try any of their Dealers to see if they have stock.

If you still have 1 of what you need, go by Lowes, or better yet ACE and they will have some sort of metric wing nut that will surfice. My RSV windshield bolts broke (plastic) and had nutplates in fairing. Just had to match threads and some rubber washers from the bins and good to go.

Thank You to all who offered help and advice.
McMaster Carr and ACE hardware are my next search areas.
