• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

My Spyder has me feeling less than warm and fuzzy

Wrapping or ceramic coating the headers will resolve the boiling gas issue. As a side benefit, it will also reduce the heat on the seat and keep vaccume lines from drying out, etc. All other things aside, BRP would have done themselves and owners a huge favor by providing wrapped/coated pipes from the factory. It's not like they didn't know they would put sealed tupperware all over their bikes.

Not to hijack, any particular wrap? Only ride in rain if its a freak occurrence. Tks ( in hot California)

All I can say is if you can do 750 miles a day, well you are a better person then I. 500 a day is my limit or my co pilot is beating on me. I went 550 one day and got beat on for 50 miles. Good luck.

Not that hot where I live, but I wonder if a spray on insulation on the fuel tank would help prevent fuel boiling. Should be easy enough to do, Just a thought.

DEI and HeatSheild make a variety of braded wraps. I'd recommend one that doesn't require a final seal coat (paint) or to be moistened. It's way to tight and takes way too long to make either of those work well, without removing the pipes.

A package of 2" to wrap a 4 Cyl engine will be enough do the trick.

Best Wishes ... and Heat Control

Best wishes on your trip to Maggie Valley. Hope your RT-s stays cool and reliable for you.

On my new 2013 RT-S (July-August) I plan on having the dealer wrap my headers and insulate the gas tank:

1) Thermo Tec thermal barrier: http://www.amazon.com/Thermo-Tec-13...qid=1370904793&sr=1-3&keywords=thermal+shield

2) Exhaust Wrap: http://www.amazon.com/Vulcan-Ultima...80&sr=1-3&keywords=vulcan+exhaust+header+wrap

I think that should do the trick. Nice thing is, neither of these items are very expensive. Boiling gasoline sends a little shiver up my spine!

Hello,
just a guess here but the Ambiant Air temp hit 123 on the gauge. which triggered the check engine light which in turn kicked off the cruise control. How do i know this- well my RT-s was just parked out in the sun over the weekend & I decided to work on installing Sirius satellite radio on it. After messing with the radio on for a little while decided to go for a short ryde to test it out. Well I hopped on, turned key, Hit Parking brake release as soon as I did that wala Check engine light on. I shut off walked away, & back again started bike up- all good till i hit parking brake again- then same check engine light again temp read 123 on gauge the whole time .So I decided to take it for a short ryde i during which I found a couple spots to stop & check shut off then restart. Once temp dropped to 120 no more check engine light. No help on the radio tho

Hope you have a safe unevenful trip to MV

That informaion is both interesting and helpful. Thanks

Have you checked to see if it threw any codes?

How to check for codes. (if you so desire)

With the key on - Press MODE, SET, and Turn Signal Cancel simultaneously (on an RT)

Codes will appear on the screen - jot them down.

The only thing that came up was orange check engine light on LCD screen unless i wasn't hitting the right buttons at time, Just went out & checked Again & nothing shows.

No sweat.

If it threw any codes your dealer will know it the next time they plug it into BUDS.

That's a question always worth asking when it has been in for service.

You may not realize it, but you threw me a major bone (steak) with your finding. Thanks.

Only made it 700 miles today. The gremlins were back with the radio not operating and heat but much better than yesterday. I have a lot to say about all of this but I'm typing on my phone and I'm not good at it do I will write more when I'm back on my computer

You got mail > PM

 Hope those were just glitches from the heat. With those temps and low fuel it must have been boiling. Hoping your travels will be towards cooler temps and you can keep up speed to have good air flow. All the best and you will be fine...enjoy MV...

Keep your tank 1/2 full till you get to open road and less heat. My brother was in a VW bug the gas pressure in the tank blew the gas line off and burned to the ground just that high heat with 1/4 tank of gas.

We made it to Maggie Valley after 2:00 am we rode the last 150 miles with Seth which is always an adventure. :yes:Cooler temps have my Spyder behaving itself which is great until I get back home. Last week was the first time the temps were over 110 but in a week or so that will be the daily norm and if my Soyder is going to act up every time I start it then the situation is not acceptable to me.

I completely understand the cruise control deactivating when you hit a bump but I do not understand why that should also trigger Limp Mode. This also is unacceptable to me and I will be pursuing a fix upon my return to Las Vegas.

I haven't figured out if my radio problems are the ipod cable or the radio itself. I will have to see if my cable works on someone else's Spyder.

Anne,
I'm glad to hear that you made it! :2thumbs:
I'm sorry to hear that the new bike isn't holding up it's end of the arrangement just yet... :gaah:
Here's to hoping that the rest of your journey is without incident!

Today me parking brake wouldn't release. Seems that the cable had melted. Good news is it will be replaced and I will get new shocks when I get back to Vegas.

 That reminds me that mine looked a bit close to the can... :yikes:

Anne,
It takes a certain amount of FAITH to own one of these beauties; right?

I have no doubt that you're getting the list of "issues" beaten down to what will soon be a non-issue!
Hang in there!
