• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. My new life adventure - sking ..cont'd

BLUEKNIGHT911

Sadly Passed Oct 2024 - RIP
Hi again ...well I survived day three, with only a couple of falls :gaah:, and no injuries so far :yes: ….. On my first two foray's into my new endeavor I decided to use my old 175's ( Rossi's with a little side shape ), I didn't care if they got a bit bruised ( and they did :lecturef_smilie:) they worked but not like I was used to..... So today I put on my new Elan's with a severe Side Cut ( parabolic shape ) ...Well OMG these things turn by themselves :yikes:....so much so I discovered they will actually turn and go UP-HILL , if I don't get off the edges......These ski's also have VERY very slippery bottom's …. I can glide much further - faster than on the Rossi's. This may sound like a good think , but it's much harder to control my speed ( which isn't my friend yet ) ….. I wasn't comfortable in the bumps, so I headed over to the Groomed trails ...:yes::yes: Much better ….. I was able to take more runs today than yesterday ….. I'm very glad I began getting my legs in shape a month ago ( repetitious stair climbing ) , but I should have started two or three months ago. Sking can be very tuff on the legs, using muscles that only get a work-out from sking …. live and learn...……...more to follow ………. Mike

Days of snowing at Mt. Rose and I'm a fair weather skier at my advanced age. I really like to see 20 or 30 yards ahead of me. Monday by the time all the storms pass. ( leaving many FEET of snow and the whole mountain open.)Mike, I do all my own waxing and edge tuning as I'll bet you do also . It's really a science now but I really don't need to go that fast.
Mike, did you look at " skitrax" app? Its fun and tells you all the stats of you day of skiing.

Well done, Mike! Is that 3 days IN A ROW ? I NEVER do that - My legs can't take it. Like you said, skiing seems to use muscles only used for ... well, skiing.

Yes, the new (for you) parabolic skis certainly are a BIG improvement over the old stuff. Stay out of those bumps and look for that corduroy! Much easier on the old joints and muscles!

not yet ............… I started last fri. and then on Wed. and today ( thurs ), but it will be 3 in a row tomorrow because I'm going then too...……………. Mike ...….. Because I have a season pass and live 15 min. from the mountain, I can Ski until I get tired ( or sore :yikes:) then call it a day..... At my age ( 71 ) common sense dictates what I can and cannot do SAFELY ………. The ski season here is normally early Dec thru april/may ….. Mike

Well done....

Don't push it.... enjoy your learaning curves a bit before leaping on...:roflblack: Glad all the falling is not dampening your resolve...

You know skiing is dangerous, you can get hurt doing that, or even killed
just ask Sonny Bono " oops you can't ask him ... he ran into a tree while skiing
and is dead.
stick with something safer like lion training or motorcycle riding....

I will and I am …. I feel better now than I did after Day #1, … another member here ( a fellow skier ) also said to get in shape for sking - you really have to ski to fully utilize the muscles that are involved ….. but the Stair climbing did help ….. Mike
