• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

My Heat Vent

Just finished my heat vent for under the spyder,I didn't want to remove the plastic shield. Came up with this idea, I cut out a section and replaced with louver, heat can escape and I still have protection for under the spyder:clap:

I just did my oil change and i heard orhte people just leaving it off and i was not to crazy about that idea and now we have a solution nicely done.:clap::clap:

That is a great idea!!! Why didn't BRP think of that?!? I think I will do mine this coming winter ..... adding to my mod list of things to do.

Best of all Guys The vent was a 16 X 8 aluminum undereave vent, cost $1.97 I just cut it down  Sprayed it black with high temp paint

My thinking This has got be be better than taking the shield off and leaving the motor expose to road hazard, I can see no harm , your oil sending unit is right above this panel ,would not want that expose to the road. My thinking and it works for me. Maybe someone else can see a downside, I see none, If we could find a louver we could open and close Now that would be great!

Yes I think it does help, It has been so Hot here in tennessee heat index has been up to 115 some days! I'll take any kind of relief while riding even if it's very small, never thought I would say this but I'm ready for fall!

Question? What is the down side of doing this, or is it "win win"?

The down side for me is you still have to remove it to change your oil and you're still not going to let as much heat out as you would with them off. I've been running around with no splash pans on for 10's of thousands of miles with no issues. There's still more protection than most motorcycles.

Lamont, as I recall you removed the splash pan primarily for ease in changing your oil. Did you or do you also find as an added benefit the better dispersement of heat?

Nice idea!
I took mine off - but had to put one back on to support the Spal fan relay on the right side(radiator side). I think I will put this in to help keep the area and Spal unit cooler.

I took mine off for the heat a long time ago on my RS. Changing the oil is much easier too but I first took it off to give the heat a place to go.

Why would you remove this panel to change oil? This panel is on the right side of the spyder
I'm sorry I thought you did both sides, not just the right side. If you turned the vent so the louvers faced forward you would get a little ram air too and that would help with the cooling but still not as much as removing them all together.

I turned the louvers to the back hoping it would let the hot air escape
I might just try turning them forward also, just held on with pop rivets would be a easy change The splash shield on the left side doesn't really have enough space for a good size vent. Most of the heat I feel is right side related other than the heat coming from the glove box area between your legs!

How about details on how to remove the guard etc., about how much time is involved in this project?

Guard has 3 bolts very easy to take off, cutting hole very simple,4 pop rivets
I painted the vent with high temp paint
I would say less than 30 mins. total

BTW I rode about 2 hours today and I could really tell the difference in the heat on my right ankle, maybe I can get use of my highway pegs now
You can always take the shield off and leave it off
I still like having the protection for the motor and think it will help keep the motor cleaner with it there, with the vent :2thumbs:
