Moving from Goldwing to Rt

I asked you guys about this earlier this year and got great responses. We sold the Goldwing and bought a 2014 RT in April. I did not want to trike the wing because I wanted a trike designed from the ground up to be a trike. I have been more than pleased with the change. I am much more relaxed on trips not having to worry about parking on inclines, slow maneuvers in parking lots, stop and go traffic etc.
we just completed a 2,600 miles trip from Texas to Colorado. The spyder handled like a sports car in the curves so we missed leaning in the curves only a little. The spyder has a little less power than the wing but with 6 speeds it was not a problem. MPG averaged 34 to 44 and I have an xlarge f4 windshield. We find ourselves hoping on the spyder for short trips much more often than when we had the wing.
i just wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is considering making the change.

We usually rent Gold Wings when we travel by air to Arizona....I love the Gold Wings, but my legs are getting to a point where that option in a few years may not work. We enjoy our Spyder as well and glad you like yours! :clap::clap:

Yes, there is life after Gold Wing or other flagship motorcycles. The new 2014 RT is a jump in the right direction. I like the 1330 ACE compared to the 998 Rotax, but would not complain for even a little more oomph.

But I am still happy, happy, happy. They gave me what I have been asking for since my 2008 GS. :yes:

From Wing to '14 RT

Hello Dbaucum,

Almost my story exactly. I just sold my 2005 GL1800 and at the end of March bought a '14 RT. I wrestled with whether to trike my wing -- went so far as to rent a Mototrike wing conversion in Austin for a whole day and rode it hard, trying to decide. Then I tried a Roadsmith conversion. But I was sold when I test drove a '14 RT. My reasons for the change were exactly the same as yours. I, too, have been pleased with the change.

Talking to Fred Rau (motorcycle journalist) at the Owners Event he told me that on average 400 Goldwings are traded in on a Spyder a month :shocked: :yes::yes::yes:

I have not had a Spyder for about a year now and miss it all the time.I had a 2010 RS-S and sold it in June 2013 for a Honda F6B.I to am going back to the Spyder world probably in the 2015 riding season.I am looking at the 2014 RT or whatever BRP might have up there sleeve for 2015.I guess I will always be a Spyder person and I guess 2 wheels is not for me.
