motorcycle jack height

Hi, I have a Craftsman 950150 jack and I was trying to get it under my RT LTD. The minimum height of the jack is 5 1/4". It would not fit under. Is there some special way to manuver it under. The jack looks like one I've seen on the forum. I purchased SpyderPops bumpskid and want to install it.
Thanks, Mike

I only say this because I was once caught out by it, Mike......have you checked to make sure that the jack has been fully compressed? ;)

I thought putting 2x4s under the wheels but all the clips and info I've seen/heard nothing about that. I had a 2002 Kawa Voyager before and bought the adapter for the jack and had the same problem. Problem with that was when you put it the 2x4s I was really on my tippy toes and unstable so it wasn't too safe to ride it up on there as I cn touch the ground. Glad to know that will not be aproblem with My :ani29:. Where exactly do I place the jack either from the front or side. I've has the SpyderPops bumpskid for a few months and still have not put it on. I also hit a few bad potholes on a country road yesterday and wanted to check it out.

Thanks, Mike

I forgot. It seems like the rails should drop down a little more but I cn see why they do not. They drop down to a height of 5 1/4". What is the clearance needed? Thanks again, Mike

I run mine up onto three 2X8's and line up the forward support of the jack under the driver's foot-peg.

I don't know what number my Craftsman jack is but it is yellow and it slides under without using ramps.

Good pics of the crossmembers under the main frame rail

Benson, your pics show very nicely where the jack crossmembers should rest on the main frame rail. Like others have said sliding in from the side centered close to the foot pegs is a good start. Just have the jack under the frame as the pics show and you should be stable.

I'm not sure on the 2014 Limited. On my 2012 I added an after market air compressor controlled from the glovebox. Any one else with a limited?

HI, WELL I FINALLY GOT HER UP ON THE JACK USING 2X8S TO RAISE HER UP FIRST. THE PLASTIC PIC IS OF THE PLASTIC PIECE ON THE SIDE IN FRONT OF THE PEGS. IT SEEMS TO BE OFF OF THE PLASTIC PEGS ON THE BOTTOM. SHOULD I PUT IT BACK ON THE PEGS. I'VE NEVER HAD HER UP IN THE AIR TO NOTICE THIS. hOW WOULD YOU LOAD HER FROM THE FRONT WHEN THE FRAME RUNS FRONT TO BACK ABOUT 6" WIDE. i'M GONNA GET SOME CYLINDER BLOCKS TO RAISE IT TO WORK ON. THANKS, MIKE

SORRY FOR THE CAPS, IT'S LATE AND I WANNA GO TO BED

Try the cheap motorcycle jack from Harbor Freight?

Hi Mike,

I got the above jack (works great for my riding mower also). Slides under my bump skid and lifts well. The bumpskid spreads the pressure (I haven't heard otherwise yet!). I also got plastic ramps from Harbor Freight. I ride up on them easily, and can jack up higher when working under the bike. Another HB buy is small jack stands to put under at the A frames if I need to pull out the jack to get under the bike.

I have had similar issues in the past. I use a HF jack. When I am sliding the jack under, I just lift up a little on the passenger had rail and slide it under

Be very careful using cinder blocks. They are not made to take compression and if any sharp edges from the frame rest on one it can crumble with no notice. If you have to use them put a board of some sort on top of the block.
