MOTO GP starts this weekend, anyone else watch this

So ? What do you think? Ben Spies wins his first Moto GP event, and Simoncelli goes down AGAIN !! I have both him and Pedrosa in my Moto GP pool.:(

The Hopper is BACK!!

I was stoked to read this!

John Hopkins Reunites with Rizla Suzuki

"The Hopper is back with Rizla Suzuki! John Hopkins will ride for the Rizla Suzuki squad once again at Brno, this time as Alvaro Bautista's teammate and not his substitute.

John Hopkins will race for the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team in the Czech Republic round of the MotoGP World Championship at Brno on Sunday 14th August.

Hopkins will make his second appearance of the season for the Rizla Suzuki squad, this time as a teammate for Álvaro Bautista rather than as a replacement. Hopkins was deputized for the injured Spaniard at Jerez and scored a respectable 10th place at the Spanish Grand Prix, due to Bautista’s inability to ride following the broken femur he suffered in Qatar".

I know the brand is not having the best of times this season so far but Alvaro Bautista has been getting better results as of late and now John is racing Brno! I feel this could be the start of a new era for both John and Suzuki. By that I mean I am hopeful that they will get a deal done for him to ride full time in 2012, even though they will probably still be on their 800cc platorms. Kinda strange they couldn't get their 1000cc bike ready in time.

But first... SECA!! This will be a good race because the track is so technical. And I think the weather is going to add another element to things because it is going to be cool and most likely cloudy, so it's going to be a real test of the tires and over-all grip of the bikes. It's gonna be good folks!

the race in Germany was awesome. Its great hopkins is back in the fold. Spies need to keep getting better.

everytime I watch the back view of them going thru corners I miss the hell out of motorcycle riding. I need a faster spyder and some racers to race against.

wish the americans could win in America, Ben Bostrum was a huge disappointment, why the hell did he even race. "i have a superbike race later" Amateur hour.

It would have been great to see an american on the podium. Ben Spies got close but never really recovered from a horrible start. Even so, you have to like the way he is progressing this year. 4th place aint bad at all!

Stoner just did a great job of waiting for the right moment to make his move for the lead and eventual win. The Repsols are showing that consistency that is going to make them hard to beat for the championship, but the field is catching them up a bit, with the Yamahas right there challenging! It was sad to see Alvaro and the Suziki crash out; I felt like they could have had another great result. Seems they need to work on that front end some more.

Bostrum? Complete waste of time. He seemed completely overwhelmed by the bike. I don't mean to be insulting to him but I detected a bit of fear there. Probably should have had some testing time before taking a GP bike on. Oh well. Still a pretty good race. I sure enjoyed it!

the bruno race confirms my fears that Honda is going to win this year and be very strong next year. Suzuki's somehow are getting better and the Duc's still can not corner enough or be fast enough to really give them a edge. Yamaha's need more snot.

More snot ? LOL Thats an interesting way to put it.

Its nice to see Simoncelli FINALLY get a podium !! So much potential, and this guy is going to be the man to beat in years to come...mark my words. He has a half assed team behind him, a lack of factory support and he competes every race ( until he bails of course). With some goos support, he will go far.

Its also nice to see Dovy grow some cahoonas and try some risky passes on the top guys. He has the speed, but has always lacked the edge...

Lorenzo looked....uninspired? They showed him in the paddock after the race and looked like he could care less...maybe its just me.

Alright, on to Indy. Predictions? Here's mine;

Pedrosa
Stoner
Spies

fight for 4th between Dovi, Simoncelli, and Lorenzo.

not enough snot...

I think you are speaking the truth, childs medium support for the souless ginger but he is still somehow up where it matters.

Indy should be

Stoner
Dev
spies

sim and Lorenzo and Hayden.

the last race was better than indy, Spies might actually make run of it next year, I think he had some of the best tire management of the race just got a bull**** start. The race between his simo and Devio was pretty good the last few laps.

stoner is the man, holy crap, nothing can catch him at this point.

Spies is the only American that seems to be doing anything and he is on a slow machine.

I wonder how much the 1000cc motors are going to change the game?

So, time to revise this thread.

and the winner is.....CASEY STONER !!! #1 plate for the 2011 season with two races to go. Lorenzo is out for at least one race and may make it back for Valencia. Will either Dovi or Pedrosa surpass him for second in the Championship? who knows, but it has been a Honda domination with Stoner, Pedrosa, Dovi, and Simoncelli this year just as I had predicted. Now lets see what will happen in 2012 with the 1000cc machines.

A tragic, tragic weekend in Moto GP. My personal favorite rider, Marco Simoncelli, died as a result of a horrific crash in Sepang.

Terrible....just terrible. :(

I was watching it live and couldn't believe my eyes. Truly horrific to watch. On the day of Dan Weldon's funeral no less. Just tragic in both cases.

Sic always had this issue of pushing too hard on cold tires and I think this may have been the case here as well. He was battling with Bautista and all of a sudden you see him lose the front which started the low-side. But he should have just let the bike go; instead he tried to save it with his knees/elbow. The rear re-gained traction but the front was lost and just shot the bike back into the racing line. Bautista barely missed him; Colin and Valentino, who were battling side -by-side simply had nowhere to go. You could tell by both of their reactions that they knew. Colin just looked dazed. I have a feeling they are going to have nightmares about this one for a while. It's just a darned shame. I think that with some timie Sic was going to be a star for sure.

RIP Marco, you will be missed. Kind of makes the last race almost irrelevant now. But I will watch, albiet with a heavy heart.

I was also watching it live and was shocked at what I saw. The only comfort is that he did not suffer. He was gone at the moment of impact.

Simoncelli was, in my opinion, to be Moto GP's future champion. He could not only ride like the wing, but had a character that everybody loved. At the funeral today in his home town, 60,000 people showed up to bid farewell to him.

I will watch the last race, but him not being there takes the excitement out of it for me. None of the other riders there have anywhere near the charisma that he had. He made you want to cheer him on because he was the oddball amongst the factory riders and gave them a real run for their money...a true underdog.

He will sorely be missed by Moto GP fans.

:(

So Trooper, looking forward to next season, what is your feeling about the jump to the new 1000cc machines? I have not been able to follow the testing very much at all or get any first impressions from the riders, but it would seem that there is some excitement there. The possibility of having a few more bikes on the grid is also a positive in my view. What have you seen, read, heard etc?
