There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

More visible color...red or magnesium metallic?

Greetings from Spyder newbie in northern Wisconsin,

Saturday morning I traded my pontoon boat for a '12 Spyder
RTs. Have 'til Tuesday to decide between red and magnesium metallic (silver?) as I do not care for blue. Which color has better visibility? According to one safety study, silver cars have the most visibility; but,of course, a Spyder is not a car. Thanks in advance for a reply.

:welcome: More LEDs have the most visibility no matter what color you get . I got a 2011 Vegas White RTS and love it ,my 2nd choice is the magnesium . Love that color .

I agree , go with the color you like because people are too busy doing what they are doing and don't see you.

:agree: Get the color that you like the most -

Get some HID headlight for daytime and put LED to help at night.

Or just ride with your high beams on if you are worried about people seeing you.

Maybe a loud stable air horn will help too .

I have a silver RT and I like the color because it is fairly easy to keep looking good but I don't think it is as visible as red and it's sure not as pretty. I remember some years ago that studies showed yellow to be the most visible color for race bikes or cars (important because of sponsor notice) and I assume the same would be true on the highway. Eyeball experience tells me that bright yellows, reds, and greens are the most visible on the highway and I've seen some yellow GoldWings that a blind man couldn't miss. Watch a race on TV and see which colors show up the best. Silvers almost disapear into the background.

White or Yellow is the best but RED is definitely better than Silver, it blends in with the pavement. Just watch as you drive and see what colors are the most visible.

Red and put on some Silver Graphics and your All set. Now you can wear a Silver or RED:yikes: Helmet!!

My RT is a 2010 Full Moon silver, which is lighter and brighter then the magnesium.

I think the Red will be more visible then the Magnesium.

In our biasd opinion, Yellow would be best, but not available on the RT, so .....

The silver is too easy to blend in, while the Red,
like on Teds Red Sled which is a 2011 model is
 VERY NOTICIBLE
:lecturef_smilie:But don't take our word for it:lecturef_smilie:
:2thumbs:judge for yourself from these pics:2thumbs:

Red is ultra visible in daylight. I followed a red RT most of the way to Cuba and it was very visible. However in lower light levels, such as dark, rainy days or twilight or sunrise, red loses a lot of its visibility. Bright yellow does best but, as already said, it's not available on the RT. I'm sure envious of those bright yellow gold wings!

Silver and gray vehicles tend to disappear into the background... guardrails, buildings and their foundation; these tend to have vehicles get "lost" in them... :gaah:
Red with lights will make you visible, but choose what you love!

Blending

I own the mag on a RS, it blends into the city, and the fog. Going to paint me some red graphics, and put some of those cool mud flap lights on. Riding near the back of the packs at spyderfest those are the things I noticed on bikes ahead.

in my opinion brp needs to take care of all the issues before worrying about more color choices although i'd like to see more colors but first fix all the problems then move on to colors.just my .02 worth

I don't mean to be argumentative but what issues has BRP not dealt with? While there may be isolated, individual problems that they haven't addressed, in my opinion BRP has addressed most of the pervasive problems quite well. On mine the power steering has been recalled, the grommets on the side panels have been replaced and glued in, and the throttle body has been replaced on warranty. I've ridden other brands that simply ignored problems and claimed they didn't exist. Not so with BRP.

For colors standing out--red or yellow wins hands down. Your choice is limited to red if that is what you want. For awhile, had two spyders. One red & one silver. I am now ryding a black one.

The colors all look nice: so the other suggestion--buy the one you like the best--and I will add: drive defensively. You can never count on the "other guy" seeing you in an accident.

:welcome: and :congrats: on your new ryde.

Yellow/black has been shown to be the highest contrast combination, and contrast creates better visibility. The hi-vis colors are the best solution, but are only available in clothing. Hi-vis helmets and jackets (the parts that move) have been statistically shown to reduce accidents. Red is most noticeable on a vehicle (IMO) but disappears the most quickly at night. I think that is why silver beats it out...but the bright silver Spyder RT is no longer available, and the Raw Magnesium is too dark (IMO) to be as effective. Lighting is the best way to attain better visibility for motorcycles. The ESI/Custom Dynamics Mudflap Lights, HMT brakelight, and Brightsides are a good way to achieve this.
