• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

More Competition?

Did some jumping in New Mexico when I was stationed there in the late 60's thru mid 70's. Most over the desert but some over the mountains. Jumped with some "smoke jumpers" as they called them back then, just for practice. Also took a few flights in a glider that one of our jet jockeys owned. The only word to describe that on the first flight was beautiful.
Sailplanes (aka gliders) are a joy! First flight and I was hooked. I had my license up until the point that I couldn't afford the hours to stay current. One of the most satisfying things I have ever done...and I have done a lot.

Aaaaah, so you're familiar with the term "sinkhole".

terminology...

Now you've picqued even my interest... would you please enlighten someone who still likes having his toes in the mud?
Sinkhole is a term occasionally used in the soaring community, and refers to a column of sinking air. For sailplane pilots, lift or rising air is what they look for, but whenever you have rising air, be it thermals, ridge, or wave lift, you will also have sinking air not too far away.
This pic was from my tow pilot days back in the 80's.
How I got the moniker is a long story for another time....

 That sounds about like how it feels when you lean back a wee bit too far in a chair... Thanks for the info!

I'd love to take that "thing" up.Looks like fun.I don't see much chance of that being in every drive-way though.Dose not look like something that would behave in "suspect" airnojoke...and "suspect" air is where the fun is!
(I have 40,000 hours logged....and still counting:thumbup:)

Ahhh - and I thought your were referring to the annuals, 100hr inspections, etc… let alone the $100 hamburgers needed to keep current… I'm an x-carrier pilot, with a seaplane rating (I know all those jokes too) - happy to be flying on my Spyder, these days.

Unfortunately, we don't have enough decent weather to justify one of those here in the great Northwet…. can't imagine a 20K crosswind in one of those..
