MO Spyderlovers, & KS & AR Too!

Wow I can't beleive you said Buckhorn, I live about 2 miles from there and I normally go every year, I like the rally but there a lot of ugly stuff that goes on when the sun goes down, although I will attend this event but I rest my head at the house at before the sun goes down... Right now we are trying to just get a date down on the calendar to start the planning processes... Right now (depending on the hits on this message) we are kind of looking at May 9-12 or an alternate date for me could be the 23-26 of May as well,, I am just going to wait till the messages develep,, So all members interested post a message on the board on what dates would be good for you and we will go from there, as soon as we get a date together we will then start the planning process...
Lets see how this goes and see what date is best for all.. Thanks for the input and if there is ANY member going to the Buckhorn Blast we can hang out a bit if you like, if ya need a shower or a place to rest your head as well the invite is out there as well.... Joe
PS: It maybe easier to email me with your dates then I can put together a list, infact that would really help me out as this develeps;; Lets do that, [email protected]
When you email me please add a good phone number, this will come in handy you'll see..

My vote is for the weekend of the 22-26th of May. I have to finish the thesis for my master's degree the weekend before :read:, and relatives getting married in Vegas the weekend following:joke:. I can't think of a better way to celebrate and have a good time the weekend after finals!

An additional note: I have family in both the Columbia, MO and Omaha, NE areas. When I get ready to ride to either location I will post something so maybe I can meet those of you that live in the vacinity.:spyder:

I'm game, My internet went down or I would have jumped in sooner. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Buckhorn thing is Memorial weekend and Labor day is Homecoming. Kinda sounds like Jeff City or Columbia would be a central location.

You'al are right. 22-25 may is the buckhorn rally We've gone for years but stopped staying at the rally , motel it now. getting too old for camping on the ground. on vacation the week before. but have to be back at work tues. al ready have motel revs. . will be in the aera at frends house south of lebedon.

Cool everyone.... here's my two cents...

Hello Everybody,
Weekends work best for me along with a day or two before or after. What I would like to get out of this trip is seeing some of our beautiful country here in the midwest. I know there is another ride being planned in one of the links where people are traveling to like 16 states in 16 days or something like that. For me, I'm not trying to rush from one destination to another. I want to enjoy what I am seeing along the way. For me, life is already rushed! I like to slow it down a little. Of course, this is just my opinion.
(My opinion and a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee.) ;)

Anyway, the one other thing I wanted to share with everyone is I ran across an article or something a while back about a destination I want to check out sometime. Doesn't have to be this trip OR THE NEXT FIVE TRIPS FOR THAT MATTER, but sometime.... I'm gonna take a trip here. Click on the link below.

Alright everybody. TTYL. Jerry from St. Louis, MO. :spyder:

There is alot of excitement, and see since yesterday morning some other members lurking.

1. WHEN:
a. Looks like an extended weekend.
b. Labor DAy weekend is nice, most have an "extra" day, but start of vacation season and crowds work for and against us.... ( Though I like the idea of large(er) groups of people that might want to interact with us! )
c. Any other weekend makes it easier on those of us with family planned events on holidays
d. Is May early? Long term forcast is for rainy late spring season. Although June is still late spring season as well.
e. I want some of the others from AR, KS, and NE to chime in here on what you think about a ride in Missouri?
f. Is there possibility that some other rally or fair or event could be used as a meeting or attraction that Spyders could join/participate/or just show up in force to support? Maybe a charity ride event... sort of like a H.D. Toys for Tots, etc.?

These are just ideas. The point is I don't think any of us are expecting too much first meet. Maybe only a Sat-Sun with a ride on Saturday, a good place to eat / sleep, then departing breakfast? We could plan from there bigger events.

You are correct the Buckhorn Rally is the week-end of the 22-25 of May... This will put a damper on our ride.. I agee with SSG Bean that this would be a better week-end for me cause of the whole Mothers Day Issuies on the week-end of the 10th of May... I do understand that the Buckhorn Rally is going on but I can afford to SCRATCH this event off my calendar and enjoy the open air outside of a Rally... The covered bridges idea is pretty cool, maybe we can fit that in but again I would really like to nail down a date and I personally leaning forward in the foxhole on the 22-25 May ordeal.. I do understand that this is Memorial Day Week-End and there will probably be a few members with plan's already but again I say as for a Date we kind of stick with this week-end... I have been giving the Link-up spot some thought as well,, And I agree with MO LEE,, either Columbia or Jefferson City would be kind of central for all,, Just my two cents worth again on a location... YOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE?
Joe

Ok folks the Captain has started another threat, it is under the General Discussion labeled:

MO-Ar-Kan Rally/Ride::

Please get on this one and VOTE for the wee-end that is best for you and we will take it from there... At a certain date we will STOP the vote and the dates that have the most VOTES will be the date we stick with, so again, Please vote..
I'm thinking sometime in the second week of April near the 14th we should close the vote.. Something like that anyway, just my 2 cents worth..
Joe

Just a thought

Thought I would throw this into the idea arena. We discussed a central location, however when I mentioned Columbia or Jeff City I forgot about Arkansas. With that in mind the Ft Leonard Wood area might be more central. SSG Bean mentioned trying to do something for the Military as part of our get together. I checked and there is a USO support ride on 13 Jun That Starts in Lebanon travels I44 to St Robert 30 miles then around 5 miles back on Rt66 to Buckhorn. I did this ride last year and it was great we had 200-300 Bikes traveling I44 and that was all you could see for miles, a group of Spyders would look good as part of it. We could do a little riding on some of our local typical crooked Missouri roads before, after, or even on Sunday. Just a idea to toss around.

Yeap I have rode this ride each and every year.. This would be a GREAT time to show off the spyder, I agree 100 percent.. Well if you plan on being there and I plan on being there that makes 2 right off the bat.. This is a Soldiers Run and supports the Armied Services so again lets do this.. We would have to plan a couple more events somewhere along the lines as this only takes about 45 minutes to do with a good BB Que afterwards at the Elbow.. This is a Saturday so MAYBE we can all get together on Friday Morning and make this our MO-AR-KS run, inccorporate this into one of our rides, spend the second night (Saturday) near Fort Leonard Wood, and go our seperate ways on Sunday morning after a good breakfast of course,, This may work.. I'm game for it anyway,, What is everyones Schedule look like as far as making this the original Spyder Ride?

I would love to try & make one of your rides but my husband just had a motorcycle accident this past Tuesday. He was riding his Harley home from Denver & was about 3 miles from home when he came over a hill & there were a flock of Turkeys. As he negotiated the Turkeys a deer came across & he hit it at 55 mph. He went down sliding 50-75 feet on the asphalt before he stopped. He had surgery to repair his right clavicle which was shattered into at least 4 pieces. He now has a similar type of plate (10 hole-8 screw) that they repaired Lance Armstrongs's clavicle with. He also has 4 broken ribs & a fractured tibia. All on his right side & he is right handed. We normally don't wear helmets but we had just bought matching full face helmets a month ago after I bought my Spyder. We have been riding for almost 40 years & this is the 1st time he has had a serious accident. I know it was just a matter of time before the odds ran out & had it not been for the helmet & all his riding gear he would not be here. I now know we will both be wearing helmets in the future. It's going to be a long recovery process for him so I won't get to see alot of riding time for awhile. But I will get out when I can. Hopefully, I can make a ride with all of you later in the summer so keep planning those rides.

I am so glad to hear your husband is doing well after such an accident. I am also glad that he decided that was a good time to wear all his gear and helmet. I hope he heals quickly and well and the two of you can get back to riding together.

Our best wishes for a speedy recovery for your husband. Sounds like the wildlife was really out to get him. So glad he was wearing the new gear...and that you both have decided to do so in the future. A little warmth and inconvenience is nothing compared to the recovery after an injury. Hope you are riding together again real soon!

Bike Accident :(

Hello Aerialdall,
This is Jerry (Coolmachine) from St. Louis, MO. I am so sorry to hear of your husbands accident. I am so glad he was wearing his helmet and that he is still around to enjoy riding. (Even though it will be a while.)
My prayers are with you and your family for a speedy recovery. Also, please keep us up to date on his recovery. Sincerely, Jerry

I missed this post till now. So soory to hear this. Our prayers are with you and your husband.

Best of luck to the both of you; him to recover quickly and completely, and you as the support system that will keep his spirits up. If we get a good ride together this year, hopefully we can make it an annual occurrence. If that's the case, you two will be the guests of honor next year. Where in Kansas are you? If your are close to KC, some of the area riders may be able to bring the ride to you! Thoughts are with you both, and glad your husband is still with us.

Back in town from visiting cousin and newborn niece....

First of all, thoughts and prayers also to "AERIALDALL". Glad that he is recovering. Just shows how vulnerable we all are on even these relatively bigger footprint machines. (Although deer don't seem to stop their instictive habits despite all the noise, lights, and other saftey devices we try to alert them with)

As for our first rally, well it's looking like a "gathering" may not come together this spring, but I'm one for putting our support into the run already scheduled Saturday June 13th from FT. Leonard Wood i.e. town of St. Roberts, MO to Lebanon, MO.

Let's get a group of Spyders travelling as "MO LEE" says and then we can break away for some "ozark riding" ourselves. I have a few ideas.....

1. Do the ride first.... and then break-away for some more riding seperately.
a. we could go to Bennett Springs Park north of Lebanon for a hot dog and hamburger picnic, then continue travel to Lake of the Ozarks, overnight stay and ride Sunday home or some more around the Lake area.
b. we could go south from Lebanon back towards Eminence, MO or Montauk State Park or Ackers Ferry ( Ozark National Scenic Riverways), overnight then travel home either north for some and south for others.

Any other ideas?

I'm "ALL IN"

Yeap I agree.. Lets all link up in Lebanon MO at the Ozark Harley Dealership around 11:00 AM.. I beleive the ride starts at 1:00 ( don't hold me to this).. As for the two options I am digging the Bennet Springs/Lake of the Ozark one the best.. as for the southern route from Lebanon I am really do not know that area that well and activities although it sounds REALLY COOL however, it makes me no differance what so ever.. So the planning begins

EVENT: USO Support The Soldiers ride on 13 Jun 2009.
LOCATION: Lebanon MO Ozark Harley Shop. (Departure Point)
TIME: Link up at 11:00 AM ( I believe the ride states at 1:PM )
End Point: St. Roberts MO at the ELBOW.( Small little biker bar)

At the end point there will be a live band and free food.. After some time at the Elbow we will break off on out run and start our activities either North or South of Lebanon.. Right now I'm counting 4 so far,, Me (xpeschon) COOLMACHINE, CAPTAINRYDER, and MO LEE.. Who else want to jump on this one? Should be fun and as for the USO run,, beleive me there will be plenty of bikes to look at, many soldiers will ride and normally the Commanding General is there leading the way and if he can't make it he will send a rep. in his place but normally he show's up..
Joe

Sounds like we may have something going here. Let me see if I can post the flyer for the USO ride. It looks like it ends at the Shrine Club. There is numerous routes we could take after the ride I don't think there is a bad ride in the Ozarks.
