Yup ... Pretty much a status quo week at SturgisPut on 1058 miles leading rides. Had anything from sunny and hot on Devils Tower/Gillette ride to hail, fog, and rain on
the Mt. Rushmore/Iron Mt. Rd./Needles Hwy ride.
One advantage of the 3 Wheeler Rally if you are there to ride is less people on the roads and highways with it being a few weeks before the Sturgis Rally. The disadvantage is it's not the Sturgis Rally. One day I hope to get there, as I'm pretty much an annual Sturgis Rally attendee..
Indeed, which is nice. One advantage of the 3 Wheeler Rally if you are there to ride is less people on the roads and highways with it being a few weeks before the Sturgis Rally. The disadvantage is it's not the Sturgis Rally.Totally different atmosphere,
Yeah ... I hear ya. Since 2002 (prior/during/after my H-D years), I have been there around 18 times. Same but different every year. My core buddy group still ride H-D's, so there's thatOne advantage of the 3 Wheeler Rally if you are there to ride is less people on the roads and highways with it being a few weeks before the Sturgis Rally. Sorry to hear about that. Everyone was supposed to turn up Hwy 85 to Belle Fourche then head west through Aladdin and Hulett to Devils tower. Despite the briefing, maps, and me slowing down on the short Interstate stretch to bunch people back up, somehow the turnoff got missed, losing about half the group. It is a one and done for us. Unless you like to gamble and eat, there wasn't much going on at the rally. The one ride we participated in was about 80 bikes to Devils Tower. Mostly interstate riding. Who wants to ride interstate in the Black Hills? We will go back to the Black Hills on our own and stay in the Custer area where most of the great riding and scenery is.
Like this?We (wife and I) made it to the 3 Wheeler Rally, our first, and we enjoyed the riding. We were both disappointed with the vendor turnout, there were more listed and most were no shows. Spyder Extras had some bad luck before the Rally started. We will probably give it another try but, we ride to the Black Hills several times during the summer. We certainly killed our fair share of grasshoppers on the back roads heading across South Dakota.
We rode all the Canyons, Needles, Iron Mountain Road, Wildlife Loop, and several others. This wasn't our first trip to the hills.Sorry to hear about that. Hope that you did get to ride Spearfish and Vanocker Canyons though.
That is the only way to ride Devil's Tower. I love stopping at Aladdin. I also like exploring around Belle Fourche, hearing about the days of being the shipping center for cattle and also the Center of the Nation. Two interesting facts I did not know before. It is also an interesting looking town.Sorry to hear about that. Everyone was supposed to turn up Hwy 85 to Belle Fourche then head west through Aladdin and Hulett to Devils tower.
