• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Military Grade Aluminum You Say?

That is bad.... I think the other manufacturers are watching this to see if Ford can make it work long term. My little brother works for a shop that does extremely expensive aluminum bodied cars and he has been critical of this being used in a truck. He said very strong aluminum structures are very expensive. He's a Ford truck guy and I thought he would have bought the first one on the lot. I think the engineering will get better in a few years.

ALUMINUM VS. STEEL

My 2 cents, aside from the ridiculous ads ...... What I would like to see is that steel Chevy truck bed in 10 years after being driven on Vermont's SALTED winter road environment ...... :yikes: .... It will look like Swiss cheese.....jmho......Mike

I would bet that this would happen with steel too. If the brushes tangled the antenna bad enough to tear it off like that.....I bet steel would have peeled away too. I never use "contact" car washes.

first off anyone going into a carwash that has those brushes is asking for trouble. especially if you don't lower or remove your antenna like the sign says!!!! those types of carwashes do major damage to the finish on your vehicle.

in order for trucks to meet new mileage requirements I can bet we are going to see other manufacturers going to aluminum bodies in the very near future.

and yes this has happened to other vehicles with steel fenders. like I said earlier it is the repair cost of the aluminum that is the expensive part verses the steel.

Some of the comments after the original post are interesting.

I haven't seen a "spinning" brush car wash in yrs. All the ones around me have the cloth that hangs down. Or the touchless type.

These new "Beer-Can" bodies are really messing up the cost of insurance... nojoke
Since all of the repair technology seems to be unfamiliar to most body shops: they are currently DOUBLING their hour rates, AND taking 50% longer to fix one. :yikes:
We're seeing claims that used to settle for six thousand dollars: now exceeding fifteen thousand...Faint.gif

If I want an aluminum body on a vehicle: I'll save my money up, and just buy an AC Cobra.
