• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Microsoft exchange scam

Scammers can display any phone number they wish on your call display. Most often it is a random local number. I have had several times had my own phone number displayed. So the number in the call display means nothing.

Stop the Scammers -- Sort Of

Our answering machine has a greeting similar to the following:

"You have reached <insert name here>, we screen all calls. Leave a message if you would like us to get back to you.
If you do nothing, you have wasted your time ... not ours."

About 90% of the time, the "we screen" results in a hang up ... I really enjoy the ones that listen to the whole message (a true waste of their time). We rarely answer the phone .... only if it is a name / number that we recognize.

The few times I have been in the mood, lately, it has been some political org asking for money / support. Regardless of who / what, I ask them to send back all the money we have contributed so far as we are withdrawing our support due to daily harassment by phone.:roflblack:

All the best .... Ann

If you have a VoIP phone service, you might be able to set up and use a totally free service called NOMOROBO @ www.nomorobo.com. I read about and researched this, and decided to give it a try. It snags and blocks 99% of telemarketing calls on the first ring (based on an ever increasing database, or blacklist), and allows you to report the occasional call that slips through so that it can be checked out and added to the blacklist if warranted. There is a FAQ section on their website, and there are multiple credible reviews available online.

The NOMOROBO service is very easy to set up and providers such as AT&T U-Verse, Comcast, Verizon, etc. have climbed aboard to facilitate the process. Since we started using NOMOROBO we have noticed a significant decrease in the number of telemarketing calls that we receive, and those we do get don't get past the first ring. And, again, it's completely free and can be deactivated by the consumer at any time.

This scam has been going on for a long time. I have a few different responses to them, depending on my mood. Once, I said : "Thank God, you've called back. I filed a request for assistance with Microsoft almost an hour ago!" That got them excited - but what came next really got them wound up. I said I was filling in for the regular IT guy who was on vacation, and all the servers were having problems, Here is where they really got excited and brought another guy on line who spoke better English - I told them the bank needed to open in a couple hours! They started telling me what to type, and I'd ask them to repeat it, with me, repeating each letter, slowly back to them, and getting it wrong, every few letters. They really thought they were going to hack a bank. After a few minutes, I hung up.

Another time, I had one screaming obscenities at me. As he started his spiel, I stopped him and said: "I know you are a scammer and are trying to steal from me. As we are talking, I hope some :cus:, just like you is on the phone with your mother, stealing all her money." He went nuts and went off on me - I was laughing as I hung up.

I really hate thieves - I wish there was a way to stop these :cus:.

I really like your line of thought. Can't wait to try this on the next call I get.:bowdown:
