Well, finally getting around to posting about my 4 day, 1,450 mile trip over Memorial day weekend.
Started in Battle Creek, MI Friday afternoon-- took 2-lane roads and highways most the way--- up across the Mackinaw bridge, across US 2 in the UP, across Wisconsin and finally to Minnesota to visit with family. Decided to take the Lake Michigan Express Ferry back from Milwaukee to Muskegon Monday to see what that was like and avoid the Chicago traffic on a holiday weekend. Interesting, but expensive. The trip across lake Michigan via the ferry is about 90 miles and this one runs @ 35MPH--- very smooth ride for 2.5 hours.
Weather was GREAT the whole trip, only had a touch or rain once I got back to Michigan on Monday.. otherwise it was in the high 80's and 90's the entire trip.
Spyder performed great, got around 27-28 mpg, got a nice taste of ryding without helmet(legally) and gotta say I really do like that. Never saw another Spyder on my whole trip... well--- not OUR kind of Spyder at least.
My pics are just quick shots taken with my i-phone while ryding--- only camera I had with me... and didn't stop often for photo ops--- so on the fly worked fine for me. I'm not much of a photog.. too busy enjoying the moment as it happens.
Crossing the Mackinaw bridge was just great. I've driven it many times, but never on a bike. I've walked it twice. Just an amazing structure. Sure doesn't look like 5 miles long in the pics---- but it is. 250 feet above the water in the middle--- and the support towers go up another 250 feet.
The UP was just gorgeous ryding along the straights and Lake Michigan. I would highly recommend a UP ryde if you ever get the chance--- and I didn't even get to the upper side!
