• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

For all those concerned about this information being public. There really isn't a way for me to lock this list and still make it accessible. So if you are concerned I guess it would be best not to list your information. But in my simple mind it is no different than the old fashioned phonebook. Heck, that had our full address in it, not just a city. Also, in my case, this is a cell phone number, we have no land line. So I guess I am just a trusting soul. This is just a volunteer thing anyway and the only way someone would know to click on this public list is by reading this thread in Spyderlovers.

Deb,
Can I make one suggestion before the sheet gets too full?
If you make a column that is state and another that is City, it could be sorted better for those travelling to a given state.

Just a thought.

Ill add my info either way.

Thanks Deb, for takeing the time , an effort. As far as security, in this day an age, you can run but you can't hide.. But if your having a problem, call me," dirty deeds done dirt cheap":spyder:.I would think Lamont could add it to the edit portion of member profiles, which would requirer a sign in to retreive it, thats just a quess,

Minor fix...

Per suggestion, I separated the city and state/province; but left a place for "Near" if desired. Also added a second column for telephone number...in this day of home and cell, etc.

This is a great idea. BMW Owners publishes a paperback size book with all the dealers, mechanics, and friends and riders.

But this is a new age so great ideas!

Also if anyone is smart enough to know how to make this list workable with a Garmin. That would be great.

Great suggestion Little John, I did this in a hurry just to get it started and didn't even think about that.

VegasRyder, thank you so much for taking the time to make the fix and getting the ones already on the list taken care of.

Let's keep this going...

Please keep adding your contact information. The more fellow Spyders around the country opt into the list, the more useful it becomes.

That's right. Spydergirl helped me out when I was in need. U-haul's trailer did not work out. Thanks to her, I was able to get back on the road ASAP. Thanks Spydergirl!!!!

The BMWMOA (BMW Motorcycle Owners Association) Anonymous book comes out annually. It is one of the best benefits of belonging to the owners' group. With over 100,000 members, it is very comprehensive. The day has been saved for lots of travelers by carrying this book.

In the interests of privacy, they do not list owners' names or addresses. Just the city/state, phone number, and what they can provide...basic tools, full shop, trailer, conversation, coffee, camping space, etc. It is a sensible approach, and one that we may wish to consider.

I do have one concern about the format of this list. Broken down on the road, Internet access is unavailable for many of us who do not own a fancy modern "smart phone". For those of us who are dinosaurs, don't forget to print out the list before you hit the road. Who says we can't have a paperback? :D

My concern is privacy. I'm willing to help anyone, but cell phone numbers getting out can be disasterous. Who uses land lines anymore? :dontknow: Reluctantly, info added...

:agree: In this day when a large number of people have no land line, there seems to be little alternative. The option is not to list yourself. BMWMOA offers this option, too.

Not bad for the first go round. 23 members on the road assitance list, but there's still alot of states not covered. This list could evan save your ass sometime:thumbup:

I spoke with Lamont and he said he would put the link to the list on the home page. So anyone can click on it from there and print it our prior to your travels. That way you have the list if you don't have wifi access while out and about.

Elevating list to website

That's great. I think it's the only way to continue to gather names as this post gets older and buried.

Still think it's a great idea and do recognize that some will be uncomfortable with adding their info. That's okay. Let's just see if we can get it to a critical mass.:D
