• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Many Bulgaries at Spyderfest!

It doesn't work that way... :banghead:
If you shoot a punk that is breaking into your car/bike/whatever: you'll be the one in handcuffs. nojoke

"Deadly physical force" can only be used if you fear loss of life or bodily harm for yourself or others.

:agree: x 2. Deadly force on someone who is trying to steal from your glovebox probably will not cut it as a defense.

Hotel parking is always "At your own risk". nojoke
Do the best that you can, and hope for the best.
Or... you can always just stay at home, with the bike locked in the garage!

We stayed at Pikes Landing Hotel in Fairbanks back in 2009. I parked both our :ani29::spyder2:'s in the front row of a very big parking lot. Left the key in the 2009 by mistake. :spyder:and key were still there in the morning. No loss or damage. I spent about an hour searching our cabin room for the bleeping key, with no luck. We dodged a bullet, but sometimes you get lucky.

That's the way I learned it when doing payroll escort in the military. If anyone commits a robbery, let them take the money, you are only allowed to use your firearm if your or another's life is in danger!

All I can say the MoJo gang worked their butts off, when I was there in 2013. There was no pressure from pitbull or any of the vendors! Had a great time ! Yes I agree security needs to be improved, maybe some pressure for them ( hotels)to increase security or they don't get the business. They should be part of making this yearly event successful.

Maybe being proactive and taking everything that is of value to you in your room will go along ways. I never leave anything of value in my bike when parked at a motel. That being said, it is sad that we have to do that. I would think that anytime a motel has a large group come in that provide them with the income that the Spyderfest event provides, they would want to ensure that their property is crime free.

This was unfortunate for those affected. These things happen. I imagine that many dollars are spent by those attending. I would expect the city to step up patrols to assure those attending That they are responding to this incident and can feel reassured that the police are on it. Many of these type of events increase security. I know they do at Amercade, Daytona and Sturgis.

Sign of our time

Seems theft of everything is on the rise everywhere . I haven't read stats but here near Toronto everything from boats to trucks to construction trailers are being stolen at a much higher rate the last couple years , many motorcycles ... 2 cars in my neighbourhood were looted 2 nights ago in a neighbourhood where it just never happened before . I've had two trucks stolen ( with all my tools ) in 3 years staying at hotels for work . A guy I work with just had his truck and all tools stolen from the Oshawa Centre Mall a couple nights ago while working. Integrity is down and crime is up I'm afraid ....

After reading this post as a new Spyder owner I don't think I will be attending Spyderfest. I have attended the Sturgis Rally 27 years in a row now and this year will be 28. Have stayed in many different hotels and have NEVER had anything stolen from the bike. I don't understand why you keep having it there!

Oh it happens at Sturgis as well, trust me you may have not had it happen to you or heard of it happen but it does happen. There are thieves in every state and town.

Amen! Wherever any big event has been, it happens. IMO, opting out of a fun rally like Spyderfest because of possible theft or vandalism risk is cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.

not pointing fingers but...

sure did seem to be a lot of "homeless" persons around the town this year compared to previous years in Springfield. Like I said, not saying they are responsible for what happened but should possibly sparked a little more interest from the LEO's??? From what I herd, not much was actually stolen just pilfered--sounds like looking for who knows what...

As far as using deadly force, I agree, you can't just shoot someone for thieving your property but you could hold them until authorities arrive if ya get the jump on them...

That's too bad. Getting one's stuff stolen can take the fun out of an event. Now, here in San Antonio, Texas, theft of property from vehicles is such a problem and so common, we have billboards around town reminding drivers not to leave anything valuable visible in the car. It happened to my wife. I take the approach of not leaving anything in the car/Spyder that I'm unwilling to lose.

:D Hi...
(COMPLETE Hijack here for a moment...)
Could you do me a favor?
Would you please find out what the pricing is on "Big Lou's" 62" pizzas, and let me know?
Thanks!

Why do they keep having Spyderfest their if this keeps happening?

This is the first year that this has happened as far as i know, It happens everywhere at one time or another, lock up your valuables and party on.
