There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Manual Parking Brake Adjustment Question

i have a 2008 RS SM5 with the manual foot operated parking brake. When I make the adjustment via the shop manual instructions the foot pedal goes all the way to the bottom before it holds the Spyder and locks the parking brake. Is this normal? I would think the parking brake should hold on the 2nd or 3rd click down...am I wrong here?

parking brake adjustment

the brake should only go down 2 to 3 clicks when adjusted properly

you can adjust it at the rear wheel I think lamont has a vid on this

parking brake

here is something I found its the procedure for adjusting

copied from another post

Several weeks back my parking brake wouldn't disengage completely. The symptom was the idiot light on the dash wouldn't turn off. Gently kicking the pedal inward to unstick it did the trick, short term. Spraying silicone on the spring, behind the pedal, permanently fixed it (lubed it up.)

Next problem was the brake cable became loose where it wouldn't hold; bike would roll. It's easy to tighten up.
(1) Manual instructions state you should lift the rear tire; I did.
(2) Go to the back of the Spyder, right side of the rear tire.
(3) Find where the brake cable connects to the spring.
(4) Loosen the nuts on both sides of the cable.
(5) Move the left-most nut toward the end of the cable (that is, unscrew it, it will move toward the back of the Spyder).
(6) Tighten the right-most nut (tightening will move the nut toward he back of the Sptder.)
(7) Test parking brake.
(8) If it still doesn't hold, repeat steps 3-6.
(9) Drop the Spyder back to the ground.

... geez, took me longer to write this than to actually do it ;)

Had parking brake issues with the 2009 GS. Never used the one on my 2008--just left it in gear since it was a manual.

I would adjust it so the brake would catch on the first or second click. Spouse would always overstep the parking brake and stretch the cable, or try to drive off without releasing it. The brake cable got adjusted a lot. Other advice about how is posted above.

Wheels and levers....

some have levers newer ones have a wheel. As stated above you do the adjustments via the cable first. There will come a time when that may not be enough and you have to go to the lever/wheel. Put the cable all the way back in. The long threads will be on the lever/wheel side. Remove the large nut and reposition the lever one knotch back towards the fender. Reinstall the nut push the lever forward and adjust the cable. The lever should always have some play when pushed forward or the brake will drag. Then test the pedal, should catch by the third click set by the fifth. hope all the above got your brake to working...

Don't know..!!

when they went to the wheel. Mine is a 2012 RS and has the wheel so I mention both so everyone can adjust their park brake. There was a similar request a time back and confusion arose when the instuction said turn the wheel back and the requester replied he had no wheel just a lever...

he stated its a 2008 GS it has this configuration just like my 2009 GS

I needed a little adjustment today, so I did as instructed, but when testing, I only have one click and its "set" the second click releases it. I was thinking that people said that 2-3-4 clicks set it. I have a 2011 RSS.

If possible, raise the rear wheel off the floor and spin the rear tire by hand to check for brake drag when the E brake is not applied. If it turns too hard, readjust the E brake or you may wear the pad out too quickly.
