• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Malfunctioning Gas Guage

Gas guage and temperature guage are all over the place. Looking for suggestions of what I could put in place of them. Something functional or at least visually appealing to take their place. I like the digital display better anyway

Disconnect them, use the digital gauges that then show on screen and use the holes for completely different things - I have seen compass, 12V plug, oil pressure gauges, etc.....

Good advice above. I am on a second gas gauge on my RTS and it still moves all over the place. I am to cheap to install other gauges--and my dealer does not want to do it anyway--so I drive by the tripmeter when it comes to gas consumption.

You would think that they could come up with a decent gas gauge on a $30K machine.

The most popular replacements for the disconnected Fuel and Engine Temperature gauges are Voltmeters and Oil Pressure gauges.

I initially went for analog Voltmeter and a Oil Pressure gauges when I first disconnected the OEM gauges. Later in the year I switched these out and replaced them with a digital Voltmeter and a digital Ambient Air Temperature gauge.

The voltmeter is definitely a real valuable instrument for me because I run high draw accessories such as a heated jacket. Being able to monitor the battery voltage reading in the dash gauge allows me greater piece of mind while traveling and running multiple accessories. I also like to know the "true" ambient air temperature and I found the read out on the RT screen to be erroneous at times, especially if the Spyder has been sitting out for a while. I have also thought about a time piece, but that is for another day.:dontknow:

I changed mine to default digital but as far as accuracy it is just as bad. My Tank showes empty at 4 gals, warning light comes on at 4.5. When the bike was new 7 months ago the analogue guage was perfect, 1/2 tank took 3 gallons so it appears that the calibration drifts for some reason.

Regards,

Early on had the same problem on my 2010 RT-S. Gas gage bounched around all over the place. Temp gage never did that. Dealer replaced the gas gage and it's steady as a rock now.

On my 2010 that was the case, too. On my 2011, it is quite the opposite. The gauge was rock steady (although less accurate) at delivery, but at about 7,000 miles it started to bounce horribly. Looks like what has happened is that whatever component they used to dampen it electronically, has burned out.

I see a new thread where someone who had just been out on their new 2012 RT Limited and stated as a problem the bouncing fuel gauge - It would appear that it is still an issue for some

I have replaced both my gauges on my RT -S 2010 with a Digital Voltmeter and Clock having had 1 replacement Fuel gauge only for it to later fail
Many owners have given up and removed both the Fuel and Temp gauges

I wondered if BRP should give new owners the option of having other gauges fiitted knowing both the fuel gauge and
temp gauge appear in the display anyway - It would be better for new owners to be confident that everything designed
on a expensive vehicle will work and not feel they have spent a great deal of money on a high tech machine where
a basic Fuel gauge fails to work

My gauge started bouncing at 5,500 miles. I use the odometer for refuling and pay little attention to the gas gauge. My question is if it now starts to bounce, does this indicate more problems are in my future? The bouncing does not bother me. Just wondering.

The bouncing is merely a loss of damping ability. It does not change anything. It may become a little worse itself, but the gauge will continue to function. I have gotten quite used to mine, which is calmer down low, where I need it to be. I use my odo, too, supplemented by the light and the gauge.

Thanks, Scotty. Yeah, I just use 30mpg and watch my odometer. Depending on where I am in south Texas is when I start looking for a station....When in west Texas, I kinda keep in mind where I am and where the next station is. If around Terlingua, Redford, etc and even on IH10 around Ft. Stockton and get 100-110, I stop...I am never in a hurry and take no chances...pushing BR1 would be no fun...ha ha

Attitude indicator

Altimeter and attitude indicator (artifical horizon). :joke:

My Attitude Indicator rides behind me.:roflblack: Seriously though, my gauge started bouncing around the 9k mark. Replaced gauge is good so far, but I'm definitely considering other things to put in those holes.
