Major tire wear issue

She is going into the stealership next Tuesday :(

Now to figure out replacement tires. I am sure they are going to say, "Sorry, those are designed to wear out" and I will be stuck paying for tires, even though its due to faulty bike!

You could look into the Denver dealer. I had a little work done there and they seem pretty capable. It would be worth a call.

Depends on what the local one says is going to depend on what I do. I know I am going to be super anxious until I hear results.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'll fill you in with what happens.

tires

These tires look brand spankin new on outside edge. I am just glad that I didn't blow one in Death Valley on my trip 2600 mile trip to/from california.

Going to call the stealership tomorrow morning and get her into the shop. Already looking at replacement tires. Tirerack.com is only showing 1 in the 165/65/14 size :( Is there any other size I can use?

I had the same problem with my front tires after 10k i replaced them with pirellis car tires 185/60/14 6k later no problems

tire wear

i had all my work done at Cowtown, they seemed like they knew what they were doing, but my point is that they put in a new DPS all three times. each time i noticed tire wear, the steering would go out shortly after, lock up start pull to one side or just stop working alltogether

So you think it might be the DPS recall not doing what it should?

tire toe in

My spyder is doing same thing going to bring the girl in to the shop ball joint isue to aliment was in so they well change both monday...:(

I ran my RS rear 22750 and the fronts 33k. The fronts were worn on the inside when I replaced them but being from the Harley world where I would have replaced 3 rears and 2 fronts in that amount of miles I was pretty happy and replaced the tyres with the Kendas.

Intrerested in the thread though as I have a local customer with 6K on his RS and his fronts look as bad as mine did at 33k. He's had it to the dealer 3 times complaining about the wear. They did crank the preload in the shocks but didnt replace the badly worn tyres so hard to tell if they fixed anything.

This is my fear. That the show will say, "its in specs" but can see the wear, max out pre-load on a busted shock tower, and leave me with tires that are toast. I want my tires replaced, I don't feel safe driving on them.

I can tell you this much.... I WILL be writing BRP/Ski-doo about my experience.

Went in on Tuesday. Stealership called me today to say that basically they have no clue, and brp/ski-doo are giving them more things to try. The shock tower is a seperate issue, and sounds like they will be replacing it.

hopefully I get 2 new front tires out of this. Still have Super low expectations, but it made me happy when they called to "make contact" and let me know what was going on.

Had to call them for an update

They haven't checked/started looking at the alignment issue yet due to warped rotors!?!?!??!?!?! 8500 miles and I have warped rotors? - under warrenty no biggie
Rotors wont come in for another 10 days?!?!?!?! - WTF thats crap, I wanna ride!!! - Its free, oh well, suck it up.
Shock tower getting fixed - under warrenty, its free
Alignment issue - will be addressed once rotors AND shock is fixed!!!! --GGRRRRRRR 2 more Freaking weeks. That will be a month without "Little bird"

Thinking I might say give me some cash and keep the dang thing :(

both front tire wear

Both front tires worn on inside edge, about 2 1/2 inches outward. 0nly 5000 miles on '08 Spyder. Does this appear to be a camber issue nor a toe issue? Combination riding is spirited and laid-back. Have owned since new. Appreciate reply from our experienced worn tire folks.. Thanks, Mickc

What was the final resolution on this thread ??

Flyboy, are you OK now ?

My Spyder was plagued with front end problems. Very bad mishandling.
I had an alignment done once, the mishandling went away, but then I was also plagued by front uneven end tire wear.

It turns out, the Toe-In was correctly set after the first alignment, but the wheels were not set to exactly straight forward when the alignment was done.

BRP has an alignment tool that the dealers should have.

The front end on my bike seems to be pretty good now.

Keep us posted so we know how you made out.

Only the toe-in is adjustable on the Spyder. You need to have it aligned. Also, the suspension needs to be checked for worn components, which can cause excessive toe-in or other misalignment issues. I'd have the alignment adjusted to the latest spec, or the most toe-in of the original spec. The Spyder seems to appreciate a little extra toe-in, especially with a heavy rider or more agressive riding.

Not sure if this if worth saying but my tech guy took a good look at my front tires when I took it in for a new rear tire install at 12,000 miles. I asked him if there was a problem and he said he has had a couple of guys with wear issues but mentioned that if you hit something you can cause tire wear, they did. Now I don't think he meant hitting a pot hole but maybe a curb or something. My alignment was done a few weeks after I bought my RT because of handling issues and afte these two years of driving is fine.

By Design?

2008 GS - 14k noticeable wear inside so swapped tires on front wheels. Now 30k and almost to wear bars on inside. Handling has always "felt" like zero toe-in and follows undulations in road surface like a short wheelbase jeep with soft susp. for articulation on rocks. Also feels like more pos. camber on right wheel as more relaxed on right side of a crowned road. Pay attention at speed!

I thought suspension was designed to induce slight negative camber on outside tire when heavily loaded during hard cornering similar to Indy cars so I'm thinking all this is "Normal" ? I do my best to keep the outside tire heavily loaded as often as possible and all of my weight on the downhill ski. Gotta stay ahead of the resthome!:D

Its been in the shop for over 2 months now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

between parts getting lost and taking 2 weeks to get in, to bad weather so they couldn't test ride it. I am pretty upset but can't do anything about it. I have made 2 payments on the bike and haven't even got to see her :( Not to happy with the stealership. Going to call tomorrow and get some answer, or they can just keep the damn thing and give me some money!:cus::cus::banghead:
