• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Major Problems: What to do Next.

I have a 2011 RT. Have had all recommended services done at dealership. 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15000 miles. The bike had been towed to a dealership at least 5 times to get work done. I get that infamous warning on my display in bright orange that I am having problems. AMA has been great in coming to get me. This latest visit to get my bike repaired has turned into a nightmare. Just informed that I might need a new ECM. Approximate cost $2000 or more and that doesn't count the labor to get the work done. Any suggestions on what to do? I have a trailer for the bike that I purchased to take some long trips. I don't have the confidence anymore to ride the bike outside the County Lines for fear it will crap out on me.

Might need a new control, multiple visits to the same dealer ? Trailer it to a dealer you trust or have heard good about ?
AMA member here also.

 I'm sorry to hear that this is happening to you and your bike...
It may just be the time, to pull the plug on it. :yikes:

You say you get the orange screen but you don't say what happens. Does it quit running? Does it run rough? Does it go into limp mode? Have you pulled up codes? I have a 2012 RT and get the check engine screen. The bike still runs normally. I turn it off/on and it goes away. I'm in the process of checking the battery which I believe is the culprit. I get no codes when this happens. As was said, take it to another dealer if you are able to.

On the other hand. Last year on a long trip, my wife's 2010 RTS started acting up. She would get the check engine light and the bike would run rough. We nursed it the last 100 miles to our destination. I knew what the problem was and it was confirmed by the dealer. She needed a new throttle body. We traded on a 2014 RTS.

Another very important thing to remember, the ECM and throttle body have a longer mileage warranty because they are part of the emission control system. I believe it's 18,830 or something to that effect. Look in your owners manual.

Bummer..!!

Not having much to go on its hard to say. Would help to know what went on the five times it was in the shop. Doubt like this is hard to rid and if you got a new dealer to look at it you will still be ryding close for a while to see if it is really fixed. Tough call but if its in the buget search out a 14 and ryde on...

Good point!

More details would be appreciated. Bought new/used What were the previous issues

The early 2011's had some ECM issues which were fixed by a BUDS update. We bought our new 2011, had it updated, and so far 18,000 miles with no issues or problems.

Thanks for the input

Bought the bike new in 2011. Have just under 16000 miles on it. Very frustrating.

Me too

Had a 2011 that I was having issues with. After about 5 trips to the dealer I traded it in for a 2014. Best move I have made in a long time. Love the 2014 and restored my confidence. Some times you just have to cut your losses and start over again.
