• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Magic Mirrors Fix for loose mirrors on Ltd and T

its feral weather here atm so my attentions have turned to my new ride

ive polished it so much that im in fear of rubbing it away

my thoughts went to the terrible loose mirrors on the bike

nothing else for it but to remove the complete mirror

the inner frame comes off like the RT with 2 posts at the bottom, and a sliding post at the top

it has the same 2wire set up also for gripping the post

on inspection, the wires were not too bad....if opened up would only require bending back, but there was no easy fix for me

so i got out the O ring box and found a size which would fit onto the pins

i fitted one to each post(the top post was a little smalled diameter) but i stayed with the same size Orings for the 3 posts

i then refitted the mirror frame and result was magical(i had to use that word)

then i copied Shaun Smoakes idea and fitted an Oring to the 2 plastic posts(one top and one bottom).....these Orings were smaller

put it all back together (i used a dab of grease on the 3 nasty wedges which hold the shell on...made them go on so easy)

these mirrors are now Cadilllac...they move slightly but the movement feels like the whole mirror is rubber mounted..a bit like engine mounts

it turned out so well that i decided to do the other side too, which wasnt quite so bad

i may do a video if this weather keeps up

if anyone wants more detail then happy to provide

Parts required: 3off BS 010 Orings for 3 pins (each mirror so 6 in total)
2off BS 008 Orings for top and botton plastic pegs (each mirror so 4 in total)

so 10 Orings all up...................prob cost $2.00

Thanks Merlot....I am a big fan of DYI work arounds. i'll be making a trip the Harbor Freight too.

HI,

very interesting information.

How do you remove those mirrors exactly ?

You just have to slide them ?

I did tried, but was afraid to break something.

Thanks !

the mirror is in 3 parts

first remove the shell....it pulls off

second undo the screw(torks bit) this releases the glass

release the blinker wire coupling underneath

third remove the mirror frame........watch the vids on RT mirror removal...Pierre made a really good one...it is similar design

it takes a bit of force so better to know exactly what you are doing....as you say dont want to damage anything

Utah Pete

didnt i sell you a set of Magic Mirrors back in the day?

you were one of the first buyers as i remember

so what are you doing on F3 site? lol

i think this Oring fix would prob work on RT"s also

but its a different animal.......the RT mirror needs to be removed for every service operation whereas the F3 just needs to stop shaking

Just to confirm for my benefit is this the solution to the mirror covers especially the left one from vibrating and falling off the 2019 F3T AND LTD

no doug...........not for the outer shell

my left mirror was really loose so i addressed the problem from the pins perspective, which attach the mirror to the bike

I had a problem with the shell falling off on a dirt road with a horrendous rut. I heard it hit but did not know what made the noise until I stopped at my destination And looked at the mirror! The shell was gone! I figured I'd never find it so I rode home and went to order one finding the price to be an astronomical $120!!! So, Next day I made the 2 hour ride to find the dirt road again and searched.... found it in the weeds and it had a scuff mark on the underside which is not visible when mounted. I don't worry about them coming off anymore because I mounted Baker "hand" wings which comes with a screw that secures the shell to the mirror body.

In looking at the magic mirror in Lamonster's video, I wonder of one can get the actual Magic mirror kit and put it on Backward with the magnets on the mirror and the disks on the bike. Wonder.

Magnet size was the major issue when we looked a while ago - the RT mirrors & pins have wider spacings so there's more 'real estate' for the magnets to fit into, and the Magic magnets were simply too big for the F3L & T's.... But maybe you could use a smaller magnet, if you can source one small enough but still strong enough to work properly??! :dontknow:

what about a magnet to hold the shell on?.....just need to araldite some sheet metal inside the shell

rattlebars has got that sorted but i inherited a broken clip receiver and araldite has sort of helped that, but not completely happy

if you fit the orings youll forget all about magnets
