I had a really great ride today. The RT was happy that there was very little wind and so was I.
When I left Goodyear AZ I headed to Gila Bend AZ. I went ahead and topped off their because I couldn't remember how far the next station was. There was a lot of construction on the way there so the speed limit was anywhere from 45 mph to 65 mph. There was a pretty long run at 55 mph. I have been watching my fuel gauge for the last 4000+ miles and I thought there was something wrong with it, it wasn't moving very much and in the past I knew it would have been much lower. I guess the slower speeds and the lack of wind really made a difference. Check it out.
It's funny that the RT didn't seem to draw the same attention as my RS until I added the trailer. It got so it was really hard to get back on the road unless I parked away from the foot traffic.
This was my last fuel stop in AZ just before the CA border.
Here's a shot of some giant windmills. These things are pretty impressive.
I stopped and took some pics of the sand dunes for those of you that have never seen them. It's pretty cool. It was 87 degrees at this location.
This is one of two Border Patrol stops along the way. They had dogs sniffing all the cars and trucks. I'm not sure for what but this sign might give you a clue.
From there I went and visited an old friend. He wound up with a lot of my shop goodies when I moved to TN. It was good to catch up.
His house is right down the road from here.
After I left my buddies house I headed to the carwash to blast off the bugs a grime from the trip. I'll give it a good cleaning in the morning.
Now here was the great part. My mom had no idea I was coming out to San Diego so I called her to talk about some computer problems she was having. I'll let the video do the rest of the story.
I'm over 4000 miles on the RT on this trip alone and all and all I'm pretty happy with it. I wish the mileage was a little better but it is what it is. I'm digging having a trailer again and I love having tunes that I can control on the bars. I would flip from XM talk radio to my ipod/iphone as I was going down the road. One of the songs that popped up on my ipod was "Hold On Loosely" by 38. Special. It's funny how part of the lyrics really applies to riding the Spyder.
