• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Lost Key

Need some help with this one!!! Was getting ready for a ride today so I put my helmet on the back of the Spyder seat. My key fell out of my hand and went down under the seat, in a hole, the one that's between the two bolts that allow the seat to pivot. I removed the seat to see if I could find the key, but can't get my hand down the hole. Any suggestions????? Just hope I don't have to take the whole dang thing apart......

Thanks!!

Mick

I am not a wrench, but I have a long rod with a magnet on it for fishing stuff out of tight holes...If the key is metal you might be able to do this...they always fall in a tight place, don't they...

I tried that, but didn't work. The hole starts out going towards the front of the Spyder, then turns and goes towards the rear. It's really a pin in the tail... Big Red 1, my wife and I are also retired Air Force. Thanks for serving our country!!!!!!

That hole is a bottomless pit! Idropped a 10mm wrench down it when I was taking my seat off to install the Utopia. GONE forever......didn't listen to others who said tape it up or stuff paper in it, etc, etc. :sour:

I wouldn't ride the bike until you recover your key. I also lost a bolt in that same bottom less hole and it fell out into the drive sprocket ( thank God it didn't do any damage ) and what a horrible racket it made .:yikes: If memory serves me right I think if you take the two side covers off under the seat beside each hand grip you may very well find the key.:dontknow:

Do you have access to one of those flex-shaft "Grabber Thingies"? I'm famous for dropping stuff into the worst holes on this Planet; every once in a while I can fish something back out with mine...
Good Luck!

But if you drop it with the IPS it's liable to break your toes... :roflblack:
(But the IPS is a great idea!)

Tiny telescoping magnet from any auto parts store. About the size of an ink pen. Extends to about 2 feet. Always a handy tool to have and may work here.

 I do believe that you are correct...

Steve,
I don't know if that hidden cavern drops straight down in... That's why I sould suggest the flexible shaft version... it covers a few more of the impediments...

Black hole

When the dealer recalibrated my Auto Air Bag "thingy" to make it work, part of the setup is to crank the front shocks down to 6 inches and to put a piece of 4x4 (6 inches in length) under the back frame so it is perfectly level and no air in the bag. Took 4 guys to do that, two lifting, 1 placing the block under the rear frame at the designated spot and 1 to shout and scream to the other 3 as he co-ordinates this stupid procedure. Anyway, as they picked it up (4 or 5 times) by the pax handles and as it moved around some, a 10 mm socket came floating out from the "black hole." Wasn't mine and the guy who did the original setup was fired, so naturally they blamed it on him. Yes, all this, the BUDS stuff and 30 minutes with the key out of the bike (and placed more than 20 feet away), it works.

So, buy a 6 pack, invite a couple guys over and shake the snot out of your bike and maybe missing things will fly out of the bike. :yikes:

I appreciate the help. Have tried everything so far with no luck. The hole is at such an angle that I can't get anything down it, except for the dang key!!! After messing with it for about an hour yesterday I took it for a 200 mile ride. Figured sine I couldn't get to the key it wouldn't matter if I lost it on the road or not.

Thats the spirit, to hell with the little things Ryde baby Ryde!

I had to buy a new key and they charged me $75. I would give it pretty good effort to find it if it were me.

Don't wait to get a replacement made. It'll come in handy some day & save your bacon!

Ref - drop the other one down with a string tied to it and follow the string down

Instead of the other key tie/secure a magnet on the string and hopefully this may just follow the same path and with luck may
just connect with the key and allow you to retrieve the original key back - Got to be worth a try !

I don't think that will work, most keys are brass So i assume the Spyders are also ,:dontknow: And besides a magnet on a string will attach it self to the sides as its lowered down.

Thanks, Mick. I put in 29 but did not want to make a career out of it. ;) Anyway, 80% good, 20% bad. I hope you get that rascal key...
