• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Lost Key/s

I just read the procedure for a new DESS module. 2013 and earlier models. I was wrong in my previous post saying that you would need someone with the master key. You do not need the dealer at all. No need to connect to BUDS.

If you have the necessary mechanical skills All you need is to buy a new DESS module and the ignition switch, comes with 2 keys. Then install them. The new DESS will go into programing mode without the master key. The master key is only needed to add more keys later.

Service key will open trunk and storage space. Won't be able to start bike with it.

On my '14 my Ilco X270 service key opens the trunk and frunk. Therein I keep my second chipped key. Service key is flat and fits easily in wallet that is always in a pocket on my body.

Went yesterday to get another Key

We purchased a 2008 and it only had 1 key. Called a Can Am dealer and bought a blank. Cost was about $58. Took the bike to the dealership and picked up the key, drove to a key shop and had one cut. (The dealership knew a good key shop - very helpful!) Checked to be sure the new key would open the frunk and turn in the switch, used the original key to drive back to the dealership and had them program the new key. Cost to reprogram was $33. Cutting the key took 5 minutes and programming was about 15. Works like a charm. We also purchased a really nifty key surround so we could put a ring thru the keys. Found it on Ebay, it' milled aluminum (bought 2) for $20 each plus shipping. Well worth it.

Right after you get a new key, you will find your old key. I feel your pain. I carry a key in each pocket. I wish you well in finding your key. I also have a place I keeps my keys. It is very close to my Spyder.

Update..... Can-Am website and cheapcycleparts.com do not have the DESS and ignition kit.:banghead:

Well that sucks. Call a BRP Spyder dealer and ask what the replacement parts are. I am sure BRP would not leave a 2012 without replacement parts.

We unfortunately just did this yesterday. You will need the DESS module and a new ignition (the new ignition comes with two keys).

Once everything is hooked up, you just put the keys in and they will program themselves to the new DESS module. It was kind of a pain to gain access to DESS assembly and plug, and there are two screws holding the ignition in which are also difficult to get to.

I found one for $200. That seems pretty cheap. Now I gotta come up with the money..... :-(

Confucius say, "man who loses key to girlfriends apartment get no new-key" Does this apply here? :joke:

One thing to remember, the 2014 and later keys are different. 2013 and prior keys have a different chip. When buying a replacement key keep this in mind. Most dealers are unaware of this.

Yep. I specifically searched for 2012 ignition and keys. I double triple checked to be sure....

Ordered keys from below:

I ordered and received 5 blanks and will be taking them to the local reputable locksmith with my original key...they will cut them to fit and program them

I google searched the forum for key info...there's a lot of good info I found...I have a 2010 Spyder, so it might not be applicable to newer models...

Thanks Patriot but I am a beyond just needing a key. I need a new ignition kit since I don't have a key/s at all.

Do you sell them? Can you get the kit? How much?
