Looking to do cat delete....

I'm wanting to do the catalytic converter delete on my 2010 RT since I can't convince my dealer to contact BRP about possibly including my model in the heat fix recall. Just had boiling gas yesterday as I went to fill up. So I'm going to start my own modifications to reduce the heat under the panels.

I want to start with the cat delete. But I can't see paying the amount for the pipe that is currently offered :yikes:. So I was wondering if anyone has done it theirselves or had any luck with an exhaust shop fabricating a y pipe.

the 2010 rts the cat is with the muffler so just get a new muffler ,much easser than removing the cat alone.:2thumbs:

NO! The catalytic converter is a separate can... The only mufflers that ever contained the catalytic converters: the GS/RS bikes that had the 990 series engines.
Wrapping your fuel tank and the exhaust pipes, should also be in an important place on your list of things to do!

Before Pitbull/Lamont was making the CAT delete, there was a guy out here that removed his CAT and took it to a muffler shop. They made the pipes for him for I think $150 as I recall.

I have a 2010 RT-S SM5 and just did a Lamonster CAT replacement (BRP calls it a primary muffler) I call it a baffle after seeing one cut open. I hoped for a little better gas mileage, less heat underneath, and a little deeper sound. I have only put on 150 miles since I had it installed. Appears I get one or two miles per gal better, but not enough miles yet to know for sure. It has a little deeper sound which I like. The lower pan is also removed which allows more heat to escape under the bike. I am happy with the results and glad I had it done.

You've got to be careful about who's running the pipe benders at the muffler shops. nojoke
You need to have them "Mandrel bent"... it leaves them full diameter, throughout the curves!

I did Lamonts cat delete on my 2014 RT and think its well worth the money.I thought the cat delete was just a 1330 motor pipe upgrade.Did not know its available for the older RT's like yours :dontknow:

cat delete

just replace my cat with a JT cat replacement assy -- this unit was designed nicely -- no problems at all -- have a 2012 RT-SM5 -- purchased a brake spring hook from Advanced Auto to assist removing the spring on the right side -- removed the right side panels to ease replacement -- greased the sleeve gaskets supplied by JT that came with the assy on the inside and outside -- pipe slide
right on -- nice sound -- had also replace the airfilter box assy with JT's air filter at same time -- other than getting some intake noise under load in the 4200 to 4500 rpm range its not to loud -- gas mileage up about 1 1/2 to 2 miles better and WAY cooler -- fuel tank no longer hot when fueling and no boiling gas -- well worth it -- gas mileage about 34 mpg +/- 1 now -- may be a little stronger on the bottom end -- but may also be due to exhaust sounding better now -- just like when you wash your car -- you swear its faster !!

JT has them also?
I didn't know that; thanks!

He bought tooling and mentioned he planned to build them. Not sure if these are mandrel bent or not. Best to let JT post info and photos if he cares to.

I did my 2011 with a cat delete and other than noise I documented no improvements in heat, mileage or power. What I did get was a lot more noise. I heat wrapped the headers as well as the Y Pipe but this had no effect. I recorded temps before and after at key points and the heat was roughly the same take on the average. I also ran timed 0-60 and no discernable improvement power and after 13 tanks of gas them mileage maintained the same overall average.

Now one thing to remember, before I did the cat I had already put the Akrapavic muffler on and that did improve my 0-60 time (about 1/2 second on average) and improved midrange notably so it may be that the cat just could not improve over the muffler improvements.

I took the cat off and put the cat back in place, the noise went away but nothing else changed. Just food for thought
