There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Looking for ipod advice

I have a 2011 RT-S and I have been using the ipod connection in the trunk for years. I have the itouch model. In the past few months I have developed a problem where the ipod disconnects itself (electronically, not physically) from the stereo system. The music stops and my dash screen shows that there is no connection. It has gotten steadily worse and now I can only ride for 5 or 10 minutes before it cuts off.
There does not appear to be any bad connection, at least not within the trunk. Everything is snug, tight, and in great shape. It does not respond to being shaken, tugged or slapped. The strange thing is that when I am riding, hitting a bump will sometimes cause it to switch off. This leads me to believe there may be a short somewhere underneath the Tupperware. Can anyone advise where to check. I've never dealt with any of the stereo hardware before.
Strangely enough, when I unplug the ipod and then replug it, it will work again. This leads me to believe its not a physical connection issue but perhaps a compatibility glitch between ipod and Spyder ?? Your thoughts are appreciated.

My bet is the connector / cable has a problem OR due to vibration the iPod connector in your iPod is going out.
A failed connector on an iPod is not rare... They can develop problems. If that is the case there are places you can take it to get the iPod repaired. But try another cable first.

i had the same issue on my arts.
i tie wrap the iPod, and plug together, no more problem.

iPods can, and sometimes do, go bad. Try a different iPod if you can. I had to have the main board in my classic iPod replaced a couple of years ago. Even Apple does not make products that won't wear out.

Or ............................. you can buy a 2016 RT and they no longer require an ipod, you can now just plug in a USB thumb drive

with your music on it and control it the same way you do an ipod.

Not the most economical answer but may be the most fun. :D

 Isn't that sort of like trading in your Mercedes S-Class, just because the floormats are dirty?
I'm betting that it's in the cables...

I too had issues at first Louisiana roads:yikes::roflblack::roflblack: I started with older iPhone then changed to the smaller nano. Does all i needed with no fuss & clips securely to my frunk liner with np i carry the adapter if i want to use my new phone but it mostly stays on me. Fyi like the Velcro i should add someone helped me by pointing out the radio settings seem to change when you turn key but not let the full start up boot process finish. (You never see the" push mode button" screen has helped me a lot after learning that.

For starters the ipod will still work. Using the usb cable instead. So you can still use one. But the list got shorter for compatible idevices.

I have not had a chance to see one of the 2016's with a usb stick or android phone installed. From the documentation I have read. It should give you all the same functions from the handlebar controls, displayed on the screen as the istuff will. Maybe someone with a 2016 will make a video and demonstrate the functionality.

Yes I know that since a iPod cable is a USB cord anyway (plugs into a USB port on a PC).

But he was saying a "thumb drive" and if you use that instead of a iPod you do not get the nice iPod menus...

Lamont or someone made a video (on the F3) using a thumb drive on the USB cord and it was just basic stuff like a MP3 player but if the MP3 has meta data in it, it will display the song title, etc. But no play lists, artists lists, album lists, etc.
Remember, the ability to have all the things on a remote display from an iPod is because of Apples proprietary media control protocol. That is not going to exist on a thumb drive. It's just a drive!
Unless software was added to the radio to scan the thumb drive and BUILD all these lists from MP3 meta data, it's just not going to have these features.

No thanks.

Thanks, a lot of good ideas. Step one will be to try a different ipod as soon as I can scare one up. The zip tie is another interesting idea. Heck, a 2 cent fix is always worth a shot. I'll advise if I find the answer.

glad it worked
i love cheap easy nontecho fixes (work arounds)
