There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Looking for info on GS SE5 clutch kit installation &/or TSB 20021-7 - anyone?

Hello everybody

I need to change the clutch-kit on my 2009 GS-SE.
I have just got the clutch-kit (420 281 935) + adjustement kit and I´m looking for some information how to install it, because some parts are different comparing to the old one.

Can somebody send me the service bulletin 20012-7 or can somebody give me some information about:

  • which side to insert the friction plates - the small brackets with the open side or with the side marked with a number to the outside
  • is there a special sequence to insert the steel plates - the thickness is different (up to +0,2mm)

It would be great if somebody can help me.
Thanks in advance.

When doing your own work you should get a shop manual. You can get them online and they can solve all your problems. If the kit is stock, there should be some instructions if modified. If for your model, they should fit, but if thickness is too much it may not. Most friction plates can go either way and steel plates should all be in the middle, none to the outer or inner side. This is on a manual shift clutch. I am not familiar with the semi auto clutches. Hope there is someone who can give you direction. :dontknow:

Hello Chupaca,

I have got a workshop manual, but it´s only dealing with the old clutch-kit. So it´s good for disassembling but not for the little but maybe important information for installation of the new kit because it´s a bit different comparing to the old one. From my own experience I know sometimes little mistakes cause major problems.

I got the information, the kit I ordered is a replacement kit for the old one which obviously wasn´t proper designed and sometimes causes problems.
There is only a small information in the new kit - "FOR INSTALLATION PLEASE REFER TO SERVICE BULLETIN 2012-7". That´s why I asked for the bulletin.

However, thanks for your reply .

the dealer in your country/city should have that service bulletin, ask them for a copy.

I have not changed one but from what I can remember at the time it was discussed on Spyderlovers. The material the friction discs are made of changed, another pair of discs was added to increase total friction surface area and a longer oil nozzle installed. So the basic procedures to remove and replace the clutch has not changed.

There was/is a document on Spyderlovers covering this but I can't find it. Sorry. I agree with advice above about getting more info from dealer. If all that fails you could buy the Service Manual for 2013 or later because that will have the updated clutch.

hello billybovine,

Thanks for the tip.
I bought a 2013 service manual and I got the needed information.
