Great ride today...few things to point out.
Hello all,
I hope this weekend has provided the break or refresher that most of us need every so often...I went to Oklahoma today. It is about a 200 mile round trip from where I am in Texas to Durant, Oklahoma(near the Choctaw Casino). This time it was just me, the spyder, and all of the music I had on my memory card in my phone. I don't have a gopro but next time I think I will try to record some video footage from my phone and see how it comes out. The x-grip really does a good job keeping it secure. I have just over 2600 miles on the spyder and the difference in comfort from October 2012 to now is night and day. I remember the first time I was on the freeway, I drove 80mph out of fear thinking "I have to hurry and get home so I can get off this thing". Now I am driving 80 and have to remind myself that I don't have money for a ticket. Well the drive was better than great, but I want to clear up a few things:
1) Although I am a lot, lot, lot more comfortable on the spyder I still have moments of not trusting the spyder so if you see me cruising and I am going at freeway speeds(especially in a curve) I may not give you the "motorcycle wave" not to be rude but because I couldn't bring myself to take my hand off of the handle bar so the most you may get is a head nod or my pointing finger barely raised, lol. Sometimes the wind makes me think it is out to get me. :yikes:
2) I think I was hit by every bug that resides in the state of Texas. At one point a bug or rock hit my chin(I wear a 3/4 helmet) so hard I had to check for blood. You guys/gals that ride with no helmet or a half helmet and no shield or goggles have my utmost respect because I couldn't do it.
3) I am building up my riding stamina. 30 minutes on the spyder used to kind of tire me out but now 2 or 3 hours is just fine. I am still not ready for a long day trip or anything like that but it will come in time.
4) I have the cramp buster on my throttle and it is a great help but I am truly envious of you all that have cruise control during those long stretches of highway. Although I don't think it is good to have for me as a rookie rider but I can already see the benefits.
Have a great Sunday afternoon everyone,
