• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

More progress...

Had to avoid a car for the first time today :yikes:. I was at a 4 way light and had the green arrow to turn left. A car coming from the other direction was turning right. I don't know if he didn't see me or if he tried to beat me to the spot? It was no biggie though and that is the point I wanted to get at. The fact that I saw it happening braked and was able to go about my way with no thought of it is a great sign that I am getting more and more comfortable. I so look forward to when I can get on the highway and see how it is. I know that is only a couple of weeks away but it seems like forever.:popcorn:

Things on the road get a little more personal when you're on a Spyder vs a cage. Fender benders will hurt a lot more on three up. Remember you're invisible.

Looking at the wheels of vehicles instead of the faces of the driver will give you a better idea of what the cage is going to do.

Definitely watch the tires of other vehicles. They will not move without the tires rolling first.

And remember... a lot of people look directly at what they run into. So, looking at one's eyes does nothing for you.
 
I had to take the class to get the M on my license. They do not even offer a three wheel class. Only two wheels up here in the panhandle. Which was no big deal since you can crash or drop their bikes to learn. ;)
Silver lining.... DPS no longer will give you an M on your license WITHOUT the class. It used to be you rode and the examiner was in a car behind you with a licensed motorcycle driver. My husband almost failed because his buddy driving the car did a rolling stop!! So I did not have to do anything except take the receipt and paperwork saying I passed the 3 day course to the DMV and was issued a new license with my wonderful M on it. Also, because of the class. I got a discount on my insurance. Which actually paid for the cost of the class in the long run.

Congrats on the class!! You will learn so much and the rest is just time. Time getting to know your bike, how you ride, and how things are comfortable for YOU!!
The more you ride the more comfortable you will get

Don't know who you are using, but we(wife and I) used NTMSC out of McKinney, great bunch of instructors, made it really enjoyable. Wife had ZERO riding experience and used the spyder to complete the riding portion of the class. Classroom work Sat morning until about lunch time and then the rest was at the high school stadium parking lot Sat afternoon and Sun. If you use your spyder, you'll breeze right through, they tailor your portions. My wife passed with flying colors, however, truth be told, I beat her using a class motorcycle.

I am a newish rider too and here is a big detail I learned the hard way.

Keep your foot off the brake, if you ride it by accident you will get the check engine light. (I used to flash the brake when downshifting to alert others to my slowing on my old bike, I am now sure that I am all the way off the throttle before I tap the brakes.)

Also, there are some very raggedy roads around here. Angled weird and with big pot holes, even at 60+mph on some of them the spyder has never done me wrong. It may feel like you'll slide sideways on a steeply angled road but I've never had that problem.

The place I am going through is Texas Motorcycle training. They will be in Plano in the parking lot of a mall(like most are). I decided to go ahead and take the course on the motorcycle/scooters they provide instead of towing the spyder. I spoke with one of trainers and he said I could use a scooter if I wanted to so I wouldn't have to worry about shifting. I am just ready for the M so I can see if I am as ready as I feel I am to hit the road. :yes:

I'm assuming the class at Collin Creek? I've seen them out there on the weekends. You're just about there, you'll be riding in no time.
Truth be told, I drove home from Richardson on day one without a license. Was I ready? Figured I'd could do it(had some experience on 3wheelers, quads and dirt bikes from my youth). 15 miles later I parked it in the garage and told the wife, good to go! Following day put 100 miles on the ticker lapping lake Lavon. Drove around for a bit unlicensed, till we could free up a weekend for both of us to attend a class. Was I illegal...yep, but it didn't stop us from using the spyder. Drove it up to the class for the wife while she followed in the truck. Looking back, probably would have done things differently, guess we were lucky we didn't get caught. Bottom line, DPS got my money x2 and we have the "M".
I'll be happy to ride with ya when you're all set.
 
Congrats on your new spyder and im glad to see your almost there with getting the M, the safety course for a new rider is a huge plus your almost there good luck and ride safe youll love your spyder even more once you have some miles under your belt.

It...Is...Finished...well, almost

I finished the Motorcycle safety course today. Now all I have to do is take the written test and I will officially be legal. woo hoo!!! :yes:

Bro, you know it...I am counting down the hours until I can pass a officer and not have to look away out of fear of a ticket. The course was really good. Though it was not on a spyder I learned some good fundamental stuff and would be open to trying a motorcycle one day....one day waaaay down the road. lol
