There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Lithium Ion batteries and winter storage

Hey all,
Going to be buying a new battery this week for my 2019 F3S. Looking at a couple lithium ions, and my question relates to winter storage. I live in WI, so the bike is in storage from basically Nov.01 > Apr.01. It is stored in my garage and use BT's on my bikes year round. I do have a lifePo4 maintainer. Temps in my garage often fall to -0's F degrees. Would I need to remove a Lith Ion battery during storage? I never removed my AGM batteries. Never had one fail in less than 4 years. Thoughts? Thx

LiFePo are MORE resilient to storage than AGM/LA units... I would def use the maintainer for sure as there is no reason not to. It is better to avoid discharge and repetition of it as well as it will keep the cells "balanced" in their state of charge...

In the beginning some had an initially weak crank when cold (below 35F) DURING the starting procedure and simply like to be "warmed" a bit by getting a load on them... Not even sure this is a thing anymore... This can be done by hitting the starter button long enough to get the headlights on or if you have any accessories than can draw power without having to have the engine started etc... Leave the draw on it for about 5mins, then shut it down and let is sit for 5mins then it will crank as normal...

I have had a Shorai in mine for 6yrs now without issue... Mine does stay in a garage tho so I have no FHE with starting the bike in temps below 40F... Though I have ridden it in those temps and had to start it multiple times (I need to stop a lot with my injuries for 30mins or more) during my rides and have not had any problems...

IMHO ALL batteries that are stored do way better in your basement / cellar / whatever .... Mike

My statement was more toward "IN the bike or car or whatever"... They take temperature extremes and changes better etc... They discharge more evenly and recover easier when hooked up to a maintainer...
