Limp mode problem traced to brakes

I went into limp mode a couple months ago, then three times duirng first part of SITHS. None of the events leading up to this were the same. Turning the engine off and waiting a couple min seemed to solve the problem.
I had it checked out.

It seems that if "slight" pressure is applied to the pedal for 120 seconds without real pressure (braking), it will go into limp mode. Nanny thinks there is a brake problem. Thinking back to every event, I thought I was "covering" the brake, but I guess I was applying slight pressure. I guess the answer is, either foot way off the brake or using it to stop.

I think you told me about that at SITS and there was one other guy I know of that had the same problem. I've not heard that before but it makes sense. One time I was sitting at a light listening to my ipod and tapping my foot and my RT showed a brake failure. I figured right then not to do that.

One of the dealers mentioned this a few years ago....don't cruise with any pressure on the pedal. It WILL trigger a brake failure after a certain amount of time. :f_spider:

I had it happen to me also. Unknown to me, foot touching brake accidently, as I was crusing down the highway--bike went into limp mode. Drove right to dealer, they put it on buds and the tech pointed out that limp mode was caused by brake related issue. Been careful about it since and have had no problems. Same thing happened to BMW when he visited AK. Aftermarket handbrake was not releasing brake fully--his bike kept going into limp mode. Dealer figured it out, and the fix was accomplished.

Brakes and Limp Mode

The first week I had my RT the dreaded limp mode light came on. My dealer asked if I had been covering the brakes while riding. When I went out to ride again I realized that I was covering the brake the entire time while driving. The only time I cover the brake is for slowing down or stopping.

This issue is covered in bulletin 2010-6 dated July 26, 2010 on pages 7 and 8 of the bulletin. If the brake light switch is on for 60 seconds AND the vehicles speed is over 6 MPH AND the the hydraulic pressure at the master cylinder is below 73 PSI a fault will occur.

The brake nanny seems pretty sensitive.
This may seem unrelated, since I never went into limp mode, but recently, I kept getting an intermittent brake failure light.
It turns out the brake fluid was low. By about 1/2 ounce. Only one half an ounce was enough to trigger the brake fault.
