• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Light Housing MIA

After driving my 2011 RS-S home from work I noticed the housing for the light above the license plate was gone. Other than the temperature being a cold 44 degrees, the ride home was perfectly normal. The bulb is still there but the cover is gone. The replacement part is $45. :banghead:

Anyone else have this happen to them? Any way to prevent it from happening again?

There are lots of threads on this subject. There are two causes for the loss. The screw does not bottom out in the flexible bracket, so it can loosen and fall out. Some RTV silicone on the bracket hole before the lens is installed can cure this. Be sure and let the silicone cure overnight before riding. Do not use Loctite, it will crack the lens! Checking this screw atr every oil change is a good idea. Do not overtighten!

The other reason is that the bottom of the screw boss breaks out, especially if the screw is overtightened. A new lens can be reinforced with styrene or acrylic plastic and model airplane cement. A broken lens can be repaired and reinforced. I recommend a small stainless steel washer on the outside for further reinforcement.

A few small dots of silicone on the joint between the lens and the housing also helps add extra protection. The silicone can be cut to replace the bulb.

Or, you can replace the light with a cat's eye light or a small brake/taillight from Walmart.

A number of these assemblies have been replaced by dealers under warranty. That has to be costing BRP money. I'm not sure why they haven't made a lens available separately. It would be cheaper.

Seems to me things should not just be falling off your bike. Sounds like a candidate for warranty replacement.
