There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Letting go of my 2014 RTL - what is the best way to sell?

Need some advice. Unfortunately, due to medical issues, I will be selling my 2014 RTL. What is the best way to sell her without getting low balled? Need some suggestions. Thanks to all.

Check the Kelly Blue Book for the current price(s) of your Spyder at its current mileage. If you have invested in farkles over its ownership life, don't expect to recover more than about a quarter of what you spent for them. If you are going to advertise the roadster on SpyderLovers, suggest you read the sticky on the For Sale By Owner Forum, and provide such photos you deem necessary as well as the price you are asking.

A person-to-person sale will virtually always get you the best price, as any entity who intends on re-selling has to be able to mark it up to make the transaction and any work worthwhile. So, if you sell to a re-seller, you'll get less than it's worth to the eventual buyer.

I suggest listing it as many places as possible and looking to see what comparable Spyders are selling for. I usually find I need to sell used items for less than those numbers, since I'm competing with the other sellers.

Look at Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, posting on this site, Cycle Trader, and do some online research by searching as a buyer would.

Don't fall for scams that ask you get a specific report, they are really selling the report and don't want to buy your Spyder.

Also, remember that most of us value what we own more than others are willing to pay - it's all about what the market will accept, not how much time or money or just about anything else we have invested.

Best of luck, and so sorry you can't ride now. I hope you had many great rides to remember.

Be prepared to be "low balled." Everybody does it on everything.

Do some due dilligence concerning prices. Check KBB and NADA for pricing. Farkles are worth zero on a 2014. Ask me how I know. There are three prices you will find. The "offer" price from lowballers, (as in dealer trades, and places that want to sell your bike after they take you for a ride). There is the private sale price and then the retail price. That is usually $4K or more over the "trade in" price. The final selling price you get will be somewhere between trade in and private party sale. Also look at what your model and miles are selling for, ads on Spyder Lovers give a good idea.

The buyers here are astute, they will not over pay. You will get some ridiculous offers from the cheapskates. They are everywhere. :roflblack:

Put lots of photos with your ad if you can. It can take a few months to sell on SL, but sometimes you get lucky. My 2019 and 2020 F3L's were in ads here from Feb to October. Both sold in about a week once the first one was gone. Be fair, be nice, don't be greedy, and you should do just fine.

Ads running with over 500 looks and no "bites--as in replies" are usually very over priced. That is a hint you should keep in mind.

Good luck on your sale.

I'd suggest that if you post an Ad here (AFTER reading the READ FIRST! Sticky https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums...w-to-Use-the-For-Sale-by-Owner-sub-forum-**** :p )
you should only put up a few select pics first, just to highlight the quality of your bike (but never any more than 6 pics per post, or some potential viewers/possible buyers won't even be able to open your Ad/see the pics! :lecturef_smilie: ) keeping the more specific pics in reserve so that you can put up another post later on in the thread, adding a new post with a couple of new pics in it every week or so.

And be patient - most members/many potential readers/buyers already have a Spyder/Ryker, so unless they're really interested &/or searching for just what you're offering, you've gotta give them time to get used to the idea that they DO REALLY WANT TO BUY YOUR SPYDER!! The average time to sell a Spyder/Ryker here is a tad over Three Months, IF the Ad gets regular posts in it (monthly is the minimum, weekly is much better! ;) ) from the OP to bring it back up in the Index & Search Results!

Posting up a couple more pics every week or so will keep your Ad coming up to the top of the Index page AND high in the 'New Posts' or 'Today's Posts' search results too; AND it'll add interest as well - new posts with pics &/or added interest comments tend to work much better at getting people to view your Ad than just posting 'Bump' or something similar - once they've seen that 'bump' post JUST ONCE, many people never bother to look again cos they assume any more posts from the originator will simply be another 'bump', so they don't even waste their time opening the thread! :banghead: But they'll keep on looking if the first & then following posts from the OP have some more pics/greater detail! :lecturef_smilie:

Same thing with price changes - do your homework first, and make sure your asking price is reasonable/in the same ball-park as similar offerings are selling for to start with, then STICK WITH IT!! You've done your homework, you know it's pretty well priced, give it a chance!! Dropping your price just once within about the first MONTH means that the only reason many people will bother look at your Ad again is just to see how low you will go!! :cus: And once you start dropping your price, many will wait until you get down to the bottom of their preferred payment bracket (which will always be lower than your preferred selling price! :p ) before making a lower offer than you're asking, but now they KNOW that you're desperate to sell at any cost; so by dropping your price early you screw yourself over big time! :yikes:

Just Be Patient; do your homework, set a reasonable/fair price, and stick with it (DO NOT DROP YOUR PRICE TOO SOON, not unless you're prepared to be low-balled!! :banghead: ); put your Ad up with a couple of pics; post up another couple of pics &/or interesting info about your Spyder every week or so; be prepared for it take a while to sell; be patient in the meantime; and don't reduce your price until you're ready to give the thing away at bottom dollar!! :lecturef_smilie:

And if you feel you need to move it quicker, you might also considering advertising it elsewhere, but do beware, you won't be able to 'vet' the members out there as much (well, it's only a little actually! ) as you can in here; beware with sharing info you don't want the whole World to know; and watch out for the scammers & low-lives - advertising that you're selling or buying puts a dirty great target on your back for them, it attracts them like flies to .... well, you get my drift, I'm sure! :lecturef_smilie:

Just Sayin'!
