Landscape Trailer

I'm going to purchase a landscape trailer to haul my small Kubota tractor around. The trailer has a metal mesh ramp to drive up on to it. As a secondary usage I may haul the Spyder RS with it from time to time. I'm wondering if the nose will hit when using the ramp to load/unload. Does anyone have a landscape trailer with a ramp they use to haul their spyder RS?

The Spyder fits perfectly on my snowmobile trailer but loading and unloading is impossible because the nose hits the trailer deck when trying to drive on and off the trailer. The tilt is too steep. This is one of my complaints about the Spyder actually. The nose could be almost as it now but if the lower portion were cut and/or shaped a bit differently the trailer loading/unloading options would be better.

I use a similar trailer and the nose is very close to the ramp. I cut 2 2X10 boards 22" long to supplement the ramp.

Trailer

I have the same problem with a car trailer I bought...so I did the same thing (sort of) that the above did...use 2 2X6 about 3 ft long and run the front tires up on them...works great...

HI Rob: Sent pm about trailer. Deanna777

If the ramp is too steep and the nose hits, the catalytic converter could hit at the top as well. I know because I took a chunk of plywood out of my ramp.

You could add an extension to the ramp made and attached it with hinges. So you only use it when needed.
Another strategy would be to chock the wheels. Put a big block under the trailer jack and jack the front of the trailer way up. That will change the ramp angle.

Thanks everyone. As I was looking at the trailer today I was thinking some short 2x shims under the front tires might work. You guys have confirmed this ;)

Raising the front of the trailer to max height should probably help as well.

Guess the next step is to spend the $..................the hard part.

Or you raise the back end of the gate a bit- I put 2 sections of 2X4 under the back edge of the ramp (the 2" side) and it's enough to let everything clear. Just another option:2thumbs:

I have a new landscape trailer on order. :2thumbs: Should be here soon. I ordered it with a 6' ramp. I believe that is the correct ramp length needed. Cost me an extra $100. Galvanized aluminum 6.5X10. The gate will fold flat onto the deck when empty. Tom :trike:

Awesome day

I rode BMWs for several years and several hundred thousand miles. Today my son-in-law handed me a key and told me he had a bike he wanted me to ride. So it was a R 1200 RT. I never cared much for their K bikes and had shrugged off a K 1200 LT he had me ride a few years ago telling him (after riding it) there was no way I would get off my 1800 'Wing for it. Man, I really enjoyed riding the R 1200 RT! Now some of you may recall a heart attack and triple by-pass surgery 29 months ago is what put me on a Spyder in the first place.

Anyway, I got back on my Spyder to go home. You know what? I love my Spyder! Smoother than the BMW, did not have to put my feet down at the traffic lights, just solid fun! I have to admit I have wondered if I might go back to two wheels at some point. Well I need wonder no more. NO I WILL NOT! Not with the 1330 ACE.

Title says it all - an awesome day.

Hi Rob,
I have a 6.5 x12 landscape trailer with mesh tailgate. I used 2 2x10's under the tailgate and let the front tires go up on them first. Be careful of the bottom of the Spyder. It may bottom out where the tailgate meets the trailer. Once I put the sway bar, shock relocators, and elkas on it raised the Spyder about 1 or 2 inches. Now I can load the Spyder with out using anything and it won't bottom out either. Hope this helps vince morris (spydman)

Having trailered lowered cars for years I'll have to say some of you are doing it backwards. :dontknow:

Use your 2x10 boards under the back tires of your tow vehicle to lower the back of your trailer!

Works awesome.

If need be add 2 boards on top of each other, much easier than adding them at the trailer ramp.

I agree with Snoopy. I use 2 2x6's screwed together and run the rear wheels of my Blazer up on them. Then lock the parking brake. That tilts the trailer and lessens the angle of the tailgate. Placing the trailer wheels in a low spot like the curb helps too. It's all one great geometry test!

I hadn't thought of that, Snoopy, but it makes sense. The key is to lessen the angle between the bed of the trailer and the gate/ramp - only 3 ways to do that if you think about it - use a longer ramp, raise the front of the trailer/lower the back of the trailer, or raise the end of the ramp. All of them achieve the same result.

The ramp can be leveled to the trailer bed by raising the trailer tongue jack.

My trailer tongue jack did not lift enough. The nose of the Spyder still hit the ramp. I guess it depends on the amount of lift on the jack and length of the ramp.
