There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Lamonts right side heat fix

A question to everybody an that is since I blocked the top hole and removed the pan,my foot gets very hot from the side of the bike? is the air from the radiator now going there? i cant figure why,but it is very warm at the foot peg since I made the mod.

Dick,
The heat that you are feeling at the foot pegs is coming from the catalytic converter. You will need to install the Catalytic Converter Shields to stop the new found heat.

PM me and we can get together as I'm close to Hot Springs.

heat

Nope shields are in place an the heat didnt show up till I blocked the top hole,my first thought was it had to be the cat,but the shield is there and room between it and the side of the bike,so was hoping somebody else has this problem.

will uninstall the block and try it.

thanks

Heat on right Foot

Okay Spyder Lovers, just finished putting my Fan Can on, will see if it cuts down on the heat issues later on when I go riding. As far as installation, it was a little challenging but I got it on. It requires some patience and a little time. Not bad for a 50 year old woman! Wonderful day to ride. I will check back later! :welcome: :2thumbs:

Dick,
I'm sorry, I meant the Spyderpops Catalytic Converter Shields. If you want to come to Hot Springs I can install them for you or we can make other arrangements.

Hundreds of Spyder RT riders are having great success with the Shields and LaBloc combination without spending hours of their time or paying for hours of service labor for the alternative.

Ok I am going to ask a dumb question but I do not want to mess this up. Is the belly pan the only part that needs removed before the block off plate is installed. The instructions make it sound like there are two things maybe it is just the word and. "Be sure to remove the lower belly pan below and behind the radiator"

Lower right opening?

Just wondering here if the lower opening can be blocked? I see the top can be filled but no mention of the lower right side opening?

Tonga; the answer is YES you can block the lower one and it helps a lot. It didn't affect the temps on mine at all. I used a thin piece of aluminum flashing cut to slide up around the edges and it holds very well. Painted it black and its not at all noticable. I went even further underneath, with the belly pan removed, theres a black plastic covering under there with an opening thats prob more than adequate for the hot air to escape, but I used a dremel to enlarge the hole further. No matter what you do that critter still emits a hugh amount of hot air, especially if you're slow riding or city riding. I also installed SpiderPops cat sheilds as well. I still don't like the idea of that motor heat going up like it does in city driving. I know the fan holds it steady after it comes on, but soon as you hit the road it cools back down. Folks here with lots of mechnical knowledge say its absolutely nothing to worry about, but no other machine I've ever owned does that.

Thanks for the info. Yes, my plan is to cut and fit a piece of aluminium and paint it black to seal up that lower opening. The top will allow the heat out and that is ok for now. I have my feet just in front of the lower opening on my highway pegs and it gets hot down there.

Tonga: just to clarify my above post: I also used the Spiderpop cover in the top vent to begin with, and added the lower later when that didn't provide the deflection of heat that I wanted. Along with that, I increased the opening underneath.

Just put the spyderpops upper radiator block off plate in. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Thanks to this site and everyone's input I was able to disassemble the side cover, find the belly pan and remove that and install the block off plate. I've owned 2 Goldwings and never had as much of an adventure removing the plastic on those. Thanks everyone. This site is invaluable for any Spyder mods.

Heat Fix 2011 RT SE 5

I just ordered the heat shield to correct this problem. After reading all the problems removing the pan I was wondering why not just jack up the front and get out the trusty dermel and cut a hole in it? Sure, I guess if you took it off you would be able to replace it, but I'm not sure why you would want to do that--

and that is the way that I did it. If you look at Spyderpops website there are some very good pictures and tips on installing his parts. They also answer email questions really quick.
